Lazarus looks for one of those history books that was mentioned earlier.

"Psst... hey! What's your name? I noticed you spoke earlier to Laykos. I never got to introduce myself to you. The name's Sophia."

Sophia expresses a friendly smile - albeit conveying enough sorrow to be conscious of their situation.

"I have a plan."

Lazarus pulls out his library card and points to his name. He shakes his head at the plan to sneak out.

Alvin decides to explore the house, taking a look at each of the bedrooms for anything interesting.

Alvin decides to explore the house, taking a look at each of the bedrooms for anything interesting.

The first bedroom seems to have three beds, likely their own room. The next door over seems to be a room with a single bed; it appears to be a child's room from the toys in a chest, as well as the drawings on the wall with the name "Jacky" written on them with childish handwriting. The last room seemed to be Laykos's room, with a queen-sized bed and numerous other things such as a large cherrywood dresser and desk.
"Dinner's almost ready~!"

Jacky?  Who was that, and what had happened to him?  Alvin felt his unease growing— they would have to escape tonight.  He glances at the doorway to check if it's clear and, if it is, he takes a quick look in the drawers on the desk for any more information before leaving for the kitchen.

She appeared to be cooking fettuccine alfredo, a human dish.
"Hello, my child. Want to help me cook?"

Jacky?  Who was that, and what had happened to him?  Alvin felt his unease growing— they would have to escape tonight.  He glances at the doorway to check if it's clear and, if it is, he takes a quick look in the drawers on the desk for any more information before leaving for the kitchen.

He pulled the handle of the drawer, but it seemed to be locked... but why?

"Excellent! Do you see the stool over there? Use it to reach into the cabinet and grab the white sauce, please."

Why, indeed?  Had she locked it when they arrived?  There would be no reason for her to bar access to a drawer when she was the only one here.  Assuming that Laykos was keeping a terrible secret in that drawer, and filled with both curiousity and dread, Alvin looks under the bed and in the dresser for anything resembling a key.
