I had one of my scribes write about the fortress drumemdbolt (my fortress) and a foreign scribe came and wrote about the light of day I had 2 copies of each until the foreign scholar stole a copy of thoughts on drummedbolt. I hope he returns it on time or he'll suffer a late fee thats worth 90 dwarfbucks to me

Quote from: Ysyua
I had a trog give birth while scaling a wall. Just before one of my crossdorfs loosed a bolt at her. The trog baby drowned.
They said the walls were impregnable. You didn't have to prove me wrong by giving birth on them.

Hey a scholar jsut wrote a new book while I was reading the forums, it concerns the phases of the moon, it seems that having foreign scholars come in with new ideas is very helpful, before they came all my scholar would think about was why pulleys are effective

Maybe he'll give it back after he's had some scribes make some copies of it. You need a copy of a book to make another copy, correct?

Do caravans bring books? Also, has anyone observed a scholar, poet or musician produce a book, poem or song respectively as the product of a strange mood? Just imagine: an artifact that you can duplicate!

Hm you do indeed seem to need the book to copy it I haven't seen a dwarf do it from memory. But now my scholars are discussing camera obscura I wasn't aware dwarfs had such knowledge? Also whats the optical engineer and fluid engineer skills do? I can take them from embark but noone seems to learn them in game, I have an astronomer and he likes to think about the moon maybe its related to that

Has anyone gotten a migrant that worships a megabeast or titan yet? I generated a super scary world where it's not uncommon for historical figures to have one or more monsters on their worship list, but I've yet to get one as an immigrant. If so, do they have a Need to worship it? And does the megabeast or titan get added to the list of entities you can make temples to?

Your scholars discussing camera obscura probably have some ranks in the optical engineer skill, and if they don't they will soon gain some from these discussions. Not sure which branch of knowledge fluids engineering falls under though.

Does anyone know precisely which subjects dwarves can write about?

I wouldn't have expected them to have optical or fluid engineering knowledge. Maybe the fluid engineers can make DF's water run faster. /s

Well, maybe your optical engineering guy is chatting with your astronomer and they're....oh Armok.

OH SWEET MERICFUL ARMOK!

Get your hands on some clear or crystal glass, NOW. It's possible that your scholars are going to invent the telescope, and you're going to be able to build it, allowing further advances in optics and astronomy!

Since part of the fun is getting your ideas to circulate in the wider world, the best bet is probably just to have lots of scribes making lots of copies so your library isn't damaged by thefts.

Make so many that you have to start giving them away. Soon you'll have dorfs going door to door handing out kitten parchment pamphlets asking if you've heard the good news about The Pulleys Ever Onward.

Eh, I'd prefer to spread secular values from my fortress. Gotta keep my dwarves from worshipping too much, after all, it doesn't fulfill their worship needs at all. :I

That doesn't mean we won't have library security, just that library security will concern only originals and first editions.
