PTW, going to answer later when my urge to hurl abuse at some people here has cooled down.

That statement was funnier for the brief moment I thought you were replying to Xantalos.

EDIT:
Also, completely unrelated, but I just looked up some of Sir Thompson's arguments for the legalization of cremation in the 19th century, including that it would prevent premature burials.  Well, I mean that it's technically accurate, but...

This is my new favourite thing.

isnt burning contaminated stuff sort of sop when youre dealing with epidemics

also eventually we will have bred bacteria to just be inert bricks made of diamond so they cant be killed by anything :^]

Well, yes it is, up to and including burning down whole cities:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Plague_of_London
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Fire_of_London

Total recorded deaths from the plague in 1664-1666 was 100,000. Total recorded deaths from the fire was ... 6. There were no more bubonic plague outbreaks in England after that. So, the fire saved millions of lives (some theorize that more poor people died in the fire, but clearly not as many as saved from the plague) and probably acted as a massive advantage to the English economy in the long run. So, yeah, it was an accidental fire, but it also serves as the most effective mass-sterilization of a plagued city in history.

Not that I don't agree with the sentiment, but that's starting to look like flaming. And that's especially bad when turpentine and kerosene are involved.

I'm going to do the smart thing here and disengage. This isn't a hill I paticularly care to die on.

Indeed - oxidiser+fuel is the recipe for almost all low-tech explosives.

On the other hand, violent explosion at point blank kills 99.99% of bacteria on an agar plate.

That reminds me of a similar study that's using gold nanoparticles to treat cancer.
Note that colloidal gold is not expected to kill cancer cells by itself, but only in conjunction with chemotherapy or radiotherapy.

As with most medical issues, I recommend amputation and prosthesis.  :P
