I will probably do it tomorrow. I am very busy at the moment and don't have enough time to finish the turn. Even though I can save progress via virtual machine.

"The borders and lives of Al Malik shall be safe and untouched for ever!

Vile Lazarus, you will pay for you bloodthirst. The great Al Malik fleet is assembled, and soon we will depart to bring death upon you!

We ask Great Houses to support us in this warfare whereas malicious Hazat gathers forces to break the balance and take over the crown! We wish to restore the balance and to punish the renegades!"

-it may be a bit too lordly, but now everyone knows what we pursue. High lords of Al Malik, gather your courts. The war is coming, and it will be long and grim.

Turn sent. (about 21 hours ago, had some problems)

We are pleased to announce that Grail is now a garden world.

On Ministerial affairs:

Fleet assets will be put to work immediately. Routine patrolling of the space lanes will commence. All rebels, pirates, warlocks and symbiots will be dealt with. The blockade above Stigmata has been organized so that other ministries may operate more freely.

Two new ministerial holdings have been erected on Daishan.

Some news agencies have reported thusly:

"Li Halan controlled Fleet air arm flyby of Hawkwood vessel Ibn Donald Cook in Tethys South Sea Alarms Experts"

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Fleet spokesman Lad I Mirv Input responds:

"Utter rubbish. Upon visual contact, the Fleet pilots have executed a turnaway from the ship, compliant to all safety regulations."
All Fleet military flights, according to Mr Mirv Input, are "conducted in strict compliance to the international rules of airspace management over neutral waters."

State of the Galaxy:

Regarding the current conflict, a chain of four escalations has occurred. First, the capture of the League sceptors by the Hazat with the aid of the Ministry forces, which would naturally provoke the angriest response from the al-Malik. This could be considered the beginnings of a vendetta between the two Houses. Second, the internment of the forces of the aforementioned Ministry on al-Malik worlds. Third, the execution of an al-Malik noble on Byzantium II and the ransoming of their last elector. Fourth, declaration of open war by the al-Malik. The fifth escalation seems to be delayed only by the separation of the fiefs of the involved Houses.

On the House level, all of the above could be considered a feuding between two great Houses.

On the Imperial level, among other things, the Hazat electors now control ten votes directly. Five more, and the political balance of the Empire is gone, except in the minds of the most esoteric of political theorists.

If any House would be to acquire five more votes, the formation of two feuding alliances among the great Houses would be most probable, and the whole galaxy would be up in flames. In fact, with the al-Malik votes currently effectively held in ransom, some would agree that we are almost in such a situation already. Also, the recent news of Askari Golems broken out of League vaults is troubling.

The Li Halan do not wish to escalate the conflict any more than is necessary. We find the loss of life regrettable, urge the belligerents to settle their feud, and warn any prospective sceptor acquisitors that the galaxy may not bear further destabilization of the voting balance.

Duke Flav Li-Sun Kung-Zhau

Our nobles were on a very strict weight loss regime, as their debauchery had recently gotten out of control. Rest assured, they're back to binge eating.

Duke Fredrik approves House Decados choice in courtesans with some meat on their bones.

House Hawkwood Secretary of Talking Johan Kerry described the Imperial Fleet's action as "reckless and provocative."

"Obviously this could have spiraled into a terrible disaster, the unarmed Hawkwood naval transport could have at any moment accidentally destroyed the jets strafing so close to their patrol around Chivalry Island."

More stories coming up including, "Psychic Coven Conspires to Poison your Cattle" and "How do these Magic Lanterns even work anyways?"

Turn sent (obviously before Kebooo did, the damn fast turn-doer he is)

In the last minutes of his life, the al-Malik delegate to Byzantium Secundus was preparing to take a meal when an urgent missive arrived at his office. It bore the Regent's seal.

Dear al-Malik Elector

We, the Regent, write to inform you that your gracious sovereign, Rockefeller al-Malik, has just decided to enter into full-scale conflict with House Hazat, blatantly in an attempt to steal our Imperial Sceptres for himself. Even though we welcome this opportunity to test our martial mettle on the battlefield, such unsanctioned warmongering is burdened with grave consequences, one of which is the removal of al-Malik electors (i.e. you) from the Capital.

Please find your assassins attached to this letter.

Best regards,
-Lazarus Hazat

Sounds of fighting could be heard from down the corridor.

To the imperial houses:

Due to the impending war, the Hazat worlds are placed under martial law. All unauthorised, non-ministerial traffic is prohibited for the duration of hostilities. Please ensure your merchant fleet is aware of the restrictions.

-Lazarus Hazat

=========================================
As the 'Flyby Incident' has so clearly illustrated, greater communication must be maintained between Hawkwood inhabitants of Tethys and the Imperial Fleet Planetary Defenders. In order to better foster trade and growth for the prosperity of all, House Hawkwood would like to purchase additional holdings for those freemen that wish to enjoy a more pleasant climate than the frigid cold of metropolitan Delphi.

The Chancellery is willing to offer 15,000 firebirds per holding directly to treasury of the Imperial Fleet Commander, just think of the additions that could be made to the space forces of the Empire. Naturally we will communicate what locations new settlers are interested in. Three new cities are being planned but the number can be negotiated.

By the way, I thought I'd relate how the assassination mechanics worked in practice: I've sent two teams, one of three an another of two Eye operatives against a Gollor's mid-sized stack, with one noble and two bodyguards (Crystal Lantern), using the 'Assault' order. The first time one of the bodyguards died and the noble was damaged, the second time both the noble and the bodyguard died. All assassins died in the process as well (lore-wise it could be understood that their cover was blown).

This shows that a good assassin has a chance of killing even a high-armour bodyguard/noble in a single attempt, and that the general rule of 'you need the number of bodyguards +1 of assassins to hit a noble' seems to work.

Conversely, even a small number of bodyguards makes assassinations costly - you need to prepare a large number of such units, and since they can generally be considered a one-off thing, making multiple attack on well-defended nobles burns though assassins extremely fast, and is unlikely to be viable on a large scale (i.e. against multiple houses, or multiple stacks of a house) without some extreme level of preparation.

Have you tried defending a noble with a Vorox Guard at all? I am curious how much less effective they would be seeing as Crystal Lanterns are irreplaceable and Xanthippe Guards take 3 turns to churn out.

Doppelgangers will obviously be the preferred choice eventually but the costs attached to them are steep at this technological level. I know for a fact I don't have any wetware factories to bootleg until I research it. Buying them from the League is always an option, at least if they didn't declare war on you.

Please kick the Leaguemeister for me.

No, I haven't tried Voroxes. I haven't actually tested this much apart from this game here. At least in theory, they should make attacking even more of a gamble, as you never know which gets targeted.

What are golems ?
They are the only left AI in the universe of EotFS iirc. In game it is the most powerful unit, which even unassisted can kill medium stack, while in combination with some pad it can easily destroy even the largest doomstacks. It has great damage capability, it flies, it is ultimately quick, it is very hard to hit and it has a lot of hp.
