Clash of Empires
« on: September 21, 2015, 04:13:57 pm »

Okay so, went a little too mechanical with the previous attempt with Clash of Empires. As such, with this one, it'll be far more fluid.

Premise
You're a prospective tribal leader in a land full of tribes, in a fantasy setting. You start out with a traveling band of nomads - keep moving, or settle. It's up to you. From there you can take your burgeoning settlement in any direction you wish - start building a motte and bailey and to follow an empire, ally with the orcs and goblins, seek the strength of a dragon through worship, raise the dead, summon a demon, whatever. Knock yourselves out... just make it make sense. You're a human/elf/other typical mystical creature with a likewise band of peoples. Work with it.

Gameplay
Roleplay, roleplay, roleplay. There are little constraints. You will have figures in the sense of populations and standing armies, but it's down to you to roleplay your nation in a freeform gameplay. ie, you can post as much as you like with other players. To each decision you make, you highlight it to the GameMaster who puts it through the magical mysterious machine, which spits out a result. Continue play.

Time and "turns"
Time progresses in regards to real-time; a season will pass after 7 days. You will get an main update on your civilization at the end of each season (I'll try to keep to this as best I can), though you will also get "mini-updates", most likely results from actions, after actions.

Player Qualifications
Considering the intensity of the game, there'll be requirements to get in-game so as not to, no offence meant, reduce, ruin or undermine the gameplay of others. Please only join in if you intend to put thought and development into this, rather than trying to "win".

How to Join
Character name.
Tribe name.
Tribe colour.
Describe your flag to me.
Tell me about your peoples. Who are they? Where did they come from? What brought them here? What do they value? Do they have any ongoing feuds, alliances or related-by-blood/marriage tribes? Do they suffer from creature attacks, a disease, an unknown traitor?
Slightly meta-gaming, but... What do you want to lean your nation toward, so it may influence your decision or event types? you can PM me this if you want to keep it secret from other players.
Paint a spot on the map you want to begin at. This isn't a settlement, just a starting location.

Character name: Greinol of Inligno
Tribe name: Aquelign
Tribe colour: Baby Blue
Describe your flag to me: Four light green dots placed around the center of the flag in a square fashion, with a Dark Green dove placed upon the top of the flag. The background is a light blue.
The Aquelign are a people who had descended from 2 water spirits and 2 fae who had been rejected by their own kin, so they had accoording to legend traveled many leagues to find the island that the Aquelign reside today. What had then been a taste of adventure and freedom had then evolved into the Gnomes of Aquelign to group together, upholding their ideas of adventure and curiosity, the tribe had known that uniting together would only allow for their ability to grow immensely, for a leader named Greinol to lead the gnomes of Aquelign. Though, a rather strange occurrence of some sort of hostile spirits have plagued the Aquelign people, forcing them to take some sort of action.

Character sheet when I get home.

Dibs on the lakes in the bottom right.

Character name: Marrow
Tribe name: Bonescales
Tribe colour: Maroon
Describe your flag to me: A red crocodile head on a blue background. Its depicted in such a way that it looks like the crocodile is emerging from the water.

One year ago the last civil war of the great Crocoman nation ended. War had raged for only a year, but that was long enough. Brother slayed brother across the entire nation, and in the final days, destructive magic was released upon the realm. The once lush nation was turned into a barren desert overnight. Only the strong survived. The remaining Crocomem of the Bonescale tribe are some of the only remaining members of the Crocoman species. Their leader, a large red Crocoman named Marrow, a commander of a Crocoman military unit, rallied any surviving members of the species and led them away from their ruined ancestral home. The reasons for war were abandoned as the nation they fought over had been destroyed completely. For a year the soldiers wandered, gathering a few stray survivors along the way and living a fairly successful hunter gatherer lifestyle, but now they have stumbled upon a new home far far away from the grave of their civilization.

Spoiler: About Crocomen (click to show/hide)

Starting Location: That peninsula that sicks out into the water (basically the center of the map).

Will message about what my people are after later.

Ooohh, looks interesting, give me a bit to work on a sheet.

Character name: Vyeld Torev
Tribe name: Tasngar
Tribe colour: Royal Blue
Flag Description: A silver dragon on a royal blue background
Tribe/Population Description:
-Physical Description: Physically, the tribe of Tasngar is diverse, consisting of more than a few races among their number, mostly indistinguishable from one or another given their culture. Inherently, the Tasngar more easily assimilate other species/races into the tribe, being not so much a trible of those who are of the same race, but a tribe of those that follow the same beliefs.

-Cultural Description: Culturally, the Tasngar believe in keeping their faces covered at all times. Only married couples show their faces to each other, and children's faces are concealed via a veil, and create their own mask as a coming of age. Decorations are often engraved, as these are more permanent, but paints and other ornamentation are not uncommon. Furthermore, full-body clothing is almost always worn outside the home, and more often than not can double as armour.Crafting and warfare are two skills that the tribe sees as necessary for all to hone and use; Every Tasngari is more than capable of fighting, and every Tasngari is able to create tools or weapons.

-Situation: At the current moment, the Tasngar are currently enjoying a rather quiet and peaceful time, with no problems at the initial time. The tribe has migrated to the area to escape previous troubles however, and are unsure

Char. Name: Madrea Asterre Bedeos (Madrea is a title)
Tribe Name: Istania
Color: Why, lightslategray, of course.
The Mother. It is all for the Mother. She who had given herself up for humanity. For humans. Led by their prophetess-leader, the Madrea, and by the women who interpret the Mother's wisdom, the Istanians spread their faith, teaching all what they believe has been forgotten. And, perhaps, most strangely, their faith brings disturbingly consistent results...it is an old religion, given new strength by the light of their leader, whose revelations shall lead them to greatness.

Meta-gamey bit: Whaddaya think 'm goin' fer? ;p

For location; a bit southwest of the inner bit of the bay about 3/4 of the way up the map.

Character name: Mos "Madcursed" Stonefire
Tribe Name: Stonefire
Color: Olive
Flag Description: A chunk of light grey rock has white light radiating from it, on an olive background (reference to limelight)
Tribe Description:
-Physical Description: The tribe consists entirely of a small band of goblins, small humanoids with knobbish joints, thick rough skin, and exaggerated facial features, consisting of a large hawkish nose, giant eyebrows, a pronounced slope to the entire face, large pointed ears, and large yellowed eyes.

-Cultural Description: Like most goblins, the Stonefire tribe is obsessed with alchemical and chemical invention. Their own name was earned for the discovery that after processing limestone and shells into quicklime it could be burned to produce bright, piercing light. This discovery, made a mere twenty years ago, led to the splitting from the Stonefire tribe from their parent tribe, the Pyrowax tribe, named for their discovery that the heating of certain rocks in the presence of coal could produce a highly flammable wax. (It was said that all goblins could trace their ancestry to a group of men who began to experiment on themselves to extend their lives, but only managed to produce the twisted forms of modern goblins. In practice there are a handful of major tribes to which most goblins can trace their ancestry before history blends seamlessly into myth.)

Now on their own the Stonefire tribe sought out a region with extensive lime deposits so they could continue their investigation of the material, and conduct experiments on larger scales.

-Intertribal Relations: Goblins are typically on very friendly terms with eachother. When tribes meet information is often exchanged to further the efforts of both parties, and when a member of one tribe is more interested in the work being carried out by the other they are encouraged to switch tribes. Rarely there are tribes whose interests are in such direct conflict that enmity is fostered between them, but this is the exception rather than the rule.

Regrettably enmity is all too common in interactions with other races. Whether it is the tendency for tribes to release toxic fumes and the like, their affinity for explosive materials, or simply their grotesque appearance, they are shunned by most others. It only infrequently comes to violence on any scale, but goblin tribes are often chased out of areas by incoming members of other races, and as a result there are few goblins living in the mixed tribes. A handful of tribes dream of changing this, including the Stonefire tribe, but it is a much more distant dream than that of the next big discovery.

Meta-game Goals: Develop a cultural center which facilitates the spread of ideas, and normalizes the presence of goblins in cities across the region.

Location: The "strait" between the two lakes to the east.
