Eh...it's one of those things where I think it's worth it if you're sure you're going to love the game
The only way you can be sure of that is if you acknowledge your own blind fandom and that you'll like the game regardless of its content. Or if there's a well-representative demo but we've seen how those can go coughcolonialmarinescough.

I'm basing my opinion after watching the gameplay videos Beaglerush posted, as well as his opinion. He loves XCOM, but is pretty good about mentioning bugs/flaws as well, so I trust his opinion.

Of course, that's still a risk I'm taking, but I feel that it is a small risk. For me, personally.

It's not necessarily blind.  We can predict what a company will do based on what it has done in the past (to varying degrees of accuracy).

I'm skeptical about a season pass for this because Operation Slingshot was merely... decent.  Enemy Within was great of course.  So I'll probably wait and buy DLCs as they come.  (Also I didn't care about the graphical DLCs in EU much)

If Stellaris offers a season pass though, I'll probably get it because DLC is a huge part of CK2 and Paradox tend to keep developing their games for a long time.  Likely to be good return on investment.

I'm no fan of season passes and DLC-spam, but I don't think it's blind fandom to predict you'll be able to like a game you've researched. I was pretty disappointing by MGSV, but I still liked it and didn't regret preordering it. Liking and not liking things is a bit more complicated.

You can make predictions but you can't be sure of it. And as far as I can see there's no motivation to pre-order here, since it's not any cheaper than full price.

Never EVER touch Seasons passes... there is no need to as there is no benefit

They don't go up in price, they aren't timed, and in fact they often go on sale later.

And for some games, I can certainly think of a few, it is cheaper to just buy the worthwhile DLC then to buy the chaff rip off DLC no one would buy unless they were obsessed and/or loose with money.

Yeah good point, he was accusing Mulder of endangering millions to try and save a few lives...
Heh there could be a mod where the bad guys are the MiB and you play a team of paranormal enthusiasts...  Trying to rescue captive aliens :P

Season passes *can* be good deals, it's tricky though.  With the way sale are these days, patience is always going to be cheaper.  But a season pass saves money compared to buying every DLC when they come out.
Including DLCs you might not care about, yeah.

The new Independence Day 2 Trailer looks rather XCOM-y, doesn't it?
I'll let people (who haven't already) watch the trailer first instead of spoiling it with inferences and whatnot here.

You should really look to the wilderness for your stealth ideas, it has been doing it much longer than you have after all. Take squids for example, that ink trick works pretty well, and in water too! So you just sneak into the dam upsteam, dump several megatons of distressed squid into it, then break the dam. Boom, you suddenly have enough water-proof stealth for a whole city!

Even the original Independence Day was more or less X-Com in movie format.

The original certainly painted a more accurate picture of the air game than nuCOM did, at any rate.

Also, best comment is best comment:
