XCOM 8: After years and years of fighting, you finally realize who you real enemy is. Central Officer Bradford, now Imperator Central, his dead body being fed human sacrifice to keep the Imperium of Man alive.

To be fair the original plot went:
TFTD: Won the war but lost the peace.
Apocalypse: Winning TFTD caused the world to nearly end anyway. And then more aliens invade!
Interceptor: Earth is screwed, everybody go space!

The only way for them to continue the plot would be to either go the TFTD route and come up with a bunch of excuses as to why you don't have plasma weapons, go the Apocalypse route and have it so the exploding ship nuked the ecosystem or something to make supplies limited and/or knock all the research back, or go the alternative storyline route where it follows the "What if XCOM failed?" route.

Of those, to be honest I prefer the final option. Has the most room to be interesting and try new things.

In the grim darkness of the 21st century, there is only central.

Apocolypse didn't have your tech set back though. You could buy laser weapons from the start and had limited plasma weaponry (pistols) that you could buy for ground troops and plasma weapons for your vehicles as well. The elerium was just so precious that these were in short supply and humanity had gone back to using a lot more traditional weapons, but as you researched alien tech you soon got disruptors, devastators, and better explosives and researching alien physiology led to the creation of bio-weapons. In short, you just entered a new, rich field of tech.

You know how there are Paradox megacampaigns where you play through EU>CK>Vicky>HoI?  Well when this comes out we'll be able to play Xcom megacampaigns.

You play through the first one on Ironman Impossible and if you lose, you start a game of Xcom 2.  Nothing carries over, you lost the war.

I'm worried that the game will be delayed for post-November because of a certain other game that's coming out then.

You should really look to the wilderness for your stealth ideas, it has been doing it much longer than you have after all. Take squids for example, that ink trick works pretty well, and in water too! So you just sneak into the dam upsteam, dump several megatons of distressed squid into it, then break the dam. Boom, you suddenly have enough water-proof stealth for a whole city!

Which game would that be?

No, no joke. Unless you mean Fallout 4, the release date for which I have no idea about, and which is neither PC-exclusive (to my knowledge) and is nowhere near the same target player niche.

Yeah. I know I'm not the only one who's "meh" over Fallout 4 but pretty excited about XCOM 2. I know which I'm going to play first.

It takes more than gamebryo, crafting, and a dog to excite my grumpy bones.

Bethesda's E3 moot declared the FO4 launch date to be (IIRC) November 11th.

CBA to do the research at 3:30 AM, but I suspect there's more playerbase overlap than you'd think.
