The lamest memorial slab dedicated to killing of a forgotten beast.

Sath - went missing in 255 / hunter of elk birds.

That's all. Nothing about the fierce battle or the killer.

That may imply that there WAS no battle, and he just broke the raws and died of old age or something.

Anyway, in my fort, 40.19, I just got the LAMEST immigrant ever.

A NOVICE gelder.
She couldn't even be a COMPETENT gelder. Or legendary.
That's her ONLY work skill, by the way. All other skills are social.
Makes me wonder what she's been doing with her life.

Gelding an animal once or twice a year and hanging out in the dining hall the rest of her time.

The single cave layer under Questmountain was completely filled with water so a plumbing project was started to claim some land area. First, magma was pumped into water to obsidianize a suitable area around the stairwell column. Then, after the residual magma had cooled off, river water was streamed from the cavern ceiling to lay a coating of mud on the new artificial island.

Now dwarves of Questmountain finally have access to silk and cave fish and can grow plump helmets in a place where the dreaded trees wont poke their roots through the ceiling.

With the assistance of a freshly released copy of dfhack for 40.19, I finally located the aquifer the embark screen had promised me. It was very small and off on the far upper corner of my map so it's no wonder I missed it. Of course, it was saltwater. I gave up, dug a cistern near my hospital and installed a water source with dfhack.

Jadeirons also had its first goblin attack, which was warded off by raising the gates and waiting for them to go away. I was a little concerned they might not be able to reach me on my mountain embark, but halfway through my first year a small siege of a mixed squad showed up.

Adventures in woodcutting.

That happens?
I never had a woodcutter who hurt theirselves or hurt other dorfs.

I've seen bruises, this is the first serious injury.

One of the axe recruits has just been elected mayor. He and his wife were drafted into the same axe squad together upon arrival to the fortress. Since then they've become quite skilled at using an axe. Don't know how his military duties -specifically training all the damn time- will interfere with his mayoral duties.

Still, I can only imagine the potential fun that could ensue if his wife were to be killed in battle. The legendary mayor axedwarf going berserk on his fortress seems a dorfy way to end a fort.

Embarked on a really nice-looking volcanic mountain in a Masterwork game today.

Sand, clay, gypsum, lots of tin if I feel like glazing anything, and more Z-levels than I know what to do with. No flux and very little water, but I'll take it all the same. Anyway, the wagon itself wound up at the very peak of the mountain, and I wanted to dig in considerably further down, but there were also a bunch of Black Bears right next to us on embark darting in and out of sight. I drafted the expedition leader to keep guard while I dug out a place to put my food stockpiles, and he wound up killing a few of the bears, which I then used to armor him from head to toe in bone gear. Very intimidating. Sure to leave a positive impact when I send him to trade with the caravan in the fall.

Later, since it was unsurprisingly difficult to keep our food stores up on a cliff with little arable land and even less water, I sent him off to kill some badger-boars. So off he goes, yakety-saxing his way across the mountain for the better part of a month because he's too slow to chase them down, but still getting three kills to show for it. One of the badgers runs into my draft livestock, standing completely still.

I gotta see if I can train those things for war, because damn.

My queen hasn't made any mandate or demand.
She doesn't have any friend in this fortress.
She's 97 years old and doesn't have any family member.
She doesn't have any negative thought, yet.
