New version!  Must start new fort!

A new legend will be founded in the border between Haunted mountains and a dense pine forest.  Gobbos are only a few tiles away, who are my only neighbors besides dwarves.  There are about 12 dwarven civilizations, including one sprawling across the top of the southern continent.  Stormcastle has been founded!  Strike the earth!

Edit: First wildlife to appear are a peregrine falcon (yay for favorite birds!) and a kakapo.  Underwhelming, but at least means I'm getting the bolthole dug before anything nastier comes, if it does.

From what I've seen,it most certainbly will. Yes, I'm undwarfy. I went with a more survivable warm Untamed Wilds starting fort so i could get my bearings.

And before you all cry burn the elf, I'd rather fight waves of pissy giant versions of harmless animals that stay dead than zombie horse hair. Even though that's funny as hell.

Wildlife did not come, but a vile dust cloud did, right over my livestock too.   :P  It was a glorious end by Stray One-Humped Camel vile dust thrall.  Sweet, this is awesome.

We all known now rain and mist in evil biomes is not your friend.
And don't trust you're livestock teeth and hair. IT WILL SEEK VENGENCE.

The best thing about this release has got to be the community. Everyone's reaction to this release being insanely difficult? "Whoo, this is awesome!"

What's wrong with using magma? That's almost always the easiest method.
I have issues channeling it properly to do that method. I end up flooding the fortress with magma.

So I'm positive I have the right guy this time. Another two people died with blood drained from them, one of which had a witness saying it was the same guy as last time, Momuz the engineer. His response this time? he accused a tame kitten. yes... a kitten killing two people in their sleep. You're not fooling anyone, and I thus convict you of like 6 different murders.

And apparently my captain of the guard is too forgiving. No capital punishment for him - just 1200 days in prison.

Unfortunately my last awesome sword dwarf was just killed in an ambush. Goblins this time. I'm making a bunch of spears to start up a few more squads. They'll be starting from scratch too, so they'll be busy.

No! No! I will not massacre my children. Instead, I'll make them corpulent on crappy mass-produced quarry bush biscuits and questionably grown mushroom alcohol, and then send them into the military when they turn 12...

Stupid idea 2: Use Momuz as population control. As long as he does his job, he may drink his fill of chees makers.

To be fair, it's only the terrifying areas that are now challenging; if you want an easy fort go find a serene joyous forest.

Haven't had a fort since 31.18. Haven't embarked in an evil area ever.

...LET'S DO THIS.

Turned out to be difficult to get my world to naturally generate much of anything in the way of evil. I guess I'm going to have to learn how to fiddle with the advanced parameters. In the meantime I embarked on part of the tiny haunted area I could find, just to see what would happen there.

The answer: dwarf blood rain. Now the place is awash. At least I managed to get a river (salt water everywhere else) and the aquifer they warned me about seems to be at least a few Z-levels down. And I only lost three dwarves exterminating the foul blendecs. This may not be as impossible as I first thought. (:<

Yet everyone immediately jumps headfirst into the most terrifying biomes they can.

I am currently besieged by 143 Giant Mosquitoes. They are capable of killing alligators almost effortlessly. All ye be warned.

Shook mentioned that they're murder on the FPS, those Giant Mossies.

You could try removing their ability to fly and see if it helps fps wise.

And lo, did horse-sized mosquitos flop towards us as they tumbled down the mountain.

Speaking of which, a fuck-all huge group just flew by my fort. Good thing too, since I can't seem to get my idiot pikedwarves to use the weapons we brought cause they weren't home-forged.

Only got in a couple of hours of playtime, and already I've been blessed with:
  • a vampire immigrant who recently claimed his/her first victim (and didn't get caught in the act)
  • a literal murder of giant crows
  • a weredonkey goblin berserker
  • marauding swarms of bird and insect people
Bonus: My miner caused a cave-in beneath himself and broke his legs. Because I had neither buckets nor a hospital at that point, he died of dehydration after being miserable for a month or so.

Praise Armok, this is going to be so much ‼Fun‼...

Certainly you could argue that DF is a lot like The Sims, only... you know... with more vomit and decapitation.
If you launch a wooden mine cart towards the ocean at a sufficient speed, you can have your entire dwarf sail away in an ark.

Started a terrifying savannah fort. (Appropriately named Lovelashed) 145 Giant Mosquitos showed up at one point, along with some Giant Hamsters. Luckily, the mosquitos flew through an unholy mist, (A pretty weak one. All it seems to do is nauseate things for a few seconds. Now my landscape is awash in mosquito vomit.) which seemed to make them decide to fly off.

Animal men are everywhere for some reason. Mosquitomen, Thripsmen, Ottermen, Spongemen, Peregrinepeople, and Peach-faced Lovebirdfolk just to name a few.

My dwarves refuse to drink. The nearby water has a Sea Lamprey in it on one side, and a Giant Sponge on the other, and the sight of the aquatic life is interrupting the task.

For some reason, none of the various insectoid life (Giant Moths, Thrips, Mosquitos, Lice, etc. etc.) has bothered to attack me. My only combat log so far detailed an encounter with a Giant Hedgehog that just rolled into a ball until my woodcutter left, at which point it made a beeline for the edge of the map.

The main thing is that I keep getting those mists. Constantly. I can't seem to keep the game unpaused for more than 2 minutes.

Meanwhile, a quick check of legends mode indicates that I may only have one necromancer's tower in my world. With something like 20 necromancers in it, all of whom spend their time churning out autobiographical treatises with names like "Can Bern Mithronsul Save the World?"

Shall we crown the giant mosquito as the new King of Beasts ? Seems badgers are a thing of the past.
