I just constructed a nice alder cage in the corridor behind the entrance to my fort. The only thing up there is said cage, the trade depot (I don't want those stinking elves anywhere deeper in my fortress than the highest z-level. I bet they'd try to plant trees in the farm plots), and a lot of stonefall traps (hey, cages are expensive and the metalsmith isn't up yet. Sod off).

Said cage contains quite a few war dogs.

Said cage is also linked to a lever.

When the kobolds or goblins show up..."THROW THE DOGPOCALYPSE LEVER, URIST MCPEASANT!"

Incidentally...that little "bag" icon next to an animal in the Animals screen ( z > a) means it's a male, right?
I wonder if it's some sneaky way to allude to the testes. Toady, you card.

In harvestplague,

Big shortage of barrels, fuel, wood and bins.
I think, it's time to break the cavern with a unarmed/untrained militia...

The useless migrants finally dies in the tower, near my entrance. Now i get ghosts fun, and other things to discover.

I'm overburden  ::)

My dwarves are cleaning up after a migrating wave met a vein of Goblinite. Here's hoping they collect all the socks and get back inside before the next one shows up.

Other than that, FPS has slowed to a crawl, so I've put expansion on hold. I put it down to absurd amounts of excess stone, so I've got masons cranking out lots of blocks, which I'm going to use to build a tower of impressive proportions. It's right next to a volcano, so magma may come into it, but I've yet to decide what function the tower should serve. Suggestions are welcome...

I haven't had a single invasion yet :( the 'worst' thing that happened was that a cyclops invaded, which was swiftly murdered by my awesome military.
