Anyone in here know how to get your military to drop their old, shitty weapons after they pick up their new, shiny weapons?

....Why would you want your dwarves to have lessweapons when going into combat?
Because with more than one weapon in a hand, the dwarf uses neither and just stands around like a bumbling moron.

Frozenhalls' exterior work is done. Now I only need to carve out the interiors and do some other neat flourishes.

Spoiler: Cathedral preview (click to show/hide)

Here's the DFMA map if anyone wants to take a look.

But life without an anvil is like surrendering to the elves' wicked ways.

Once I find sand (I know I have some!) I'll just make everything out of glass.

I've also decided to atomsmash all stacks of one in my food stockpile, We may be running low, but we're a small fort, we don't need a lot, and It'll be far more efficient to get rid of it all and be able to make large stacks of food more easily.

designating some mass engraving to attempt to piece together the history of The Paint of Boats, the parent civ of The Sensitive roof, my people.

my dwarves wish to know why is the rum gone.

I have over 200 tame animals. I have 10 more trained ones. A have about 20 untamed animals sitting in my cages. I have an ambushworth of goblin prisoners. So I took them all and put them in a small arena with a bridge for a floor, pulled a lever to get them out of the cage, and now a bunch of creatures are duking it out in there. The winner will be rewarded with a several z-level fall to his or her doom. This is only the second time the arena has been used. The first time, when I unlocked the doors so the dwarves could pass through, I somehow had my lever set to be pulled once more. I lost 2 dwarves to the unfortunate accident. I hope that I don't lose more this time, too.

Note to self: replace hatch every year. they will break under continual strain otherwise.

Population now almost 50% children and babies.

I know I've had a grate accumulate wear after being smashed up by a troll.  I assume hatches function similarly.

Godlyscars, my Goblin Industry test fort, was coming along nicely. Until I met the zombie horse. And I didn't have weapons yet. I survived because a Berzerking gem cutter chased them off. After killing 5 dwarves. Still have 25, though. Not bad, for a first-year fortressbin 40d. Now I just have to survive the tantrum spiral.

A hatch that has water freeze on top of it will be deconstructed, if that's what you mean.

Fun, indeed.

I've had dwarves die due to my brewers as well. I noticed that my booze supply was dangerously low, and when I told my cooks to make more they both decided to go on break.

10 dwarves died before I could build the well.

Began construction on a pyramid.  Yeah, I know, everyone's been there and done that but I've only made one before so I figured it wouldn't hurt to make another.  This one is 9x9 at the base which is nearly completed.  The outside ramps are being made of silver.  The inside walls are plain old diorite, the floor is lined with electrum and the floor itself is bauxite.  I plan to make the tip out of adamantine.
