So I had a hankering to go check on the dorfs at Treatylong, but since the fort was retired once for an adventurer all the beds scattered and the idea of unretiring it just to place 150 beds and designate 150 rooms and tables and chairs and blah.
Retired Joycup and made a dorf then used an item that lets me turn into a bogeyman like race I use to run around as a ghost because they are fliers and don't get stuck in mid-air like other races do. Ran around with her and checked up on Treatylong, found out that Limul, the Zokunokab, got married to Iden, the Glassmaker, one of the two eligible bachelors in her age range. So that's great. Everyone was busy chatting about all the stuff she (I) did, also great.
Then on the way back to Joycup I found a bunch of dorfs fighting some monkeys and a couple humans but there was something odd about them.
They were all barfing everywhere, just like my dorfs do.
Turns out they all knew Limul and checking open-legends confirmed they were from Treatylong, on a hunch I headed towards Joycup and they followed me all the way, so I guess I found a migrant wave that got stuck when I retired? Neat either way.
So once I got back to Joycup I saw that the mouth bridge deconstructed somehow so I went up and shut the flow and got an idea. Since I was loathe to leave dorfs out to remove the hillside below the face due to magma and zombie armies I made use of advfort to do it. Then it hit me that I knew what to name my creation, but first I had to go find a candycane.
Joycup as a 2x2 unsurprisingly had none, but a quick swim down the volcano and over to the next embark tile was rewarded with that happy announcement. Glad I grabbed Limuls old dragonscale backpack (which is thus magma-safe) and a dragon skull pickaxe, I grabbed as much as I could see immediately and headed back up the volcano towards my project.
Stopped by to raid the stockpiles for some steel bars (Joycup has something stupid like 6k hematite/magnetite, so, no guilt whatsoever there) and set to work removing the olivine.
Once it was done I put the candy and steel in place, stopping to make some floodgates and two crystal glass windows before sealing the mouth and eyes temporarily. Then I did some tweaks, inserted the relevant hardware, linked up the gates and bridge, and then paused to do a bit of wizardry.
Use tiletypes to change the constructed walls into stone, smooth and engrave them, then turn them back into constructions again.
Finally I went over, pulled the levers, stepped back, and basked in the glory that is The Face of Armok.
