On the 21st of Opal, 203, the dwarven village of Dentbridge saw its first dwarven death. As should probably be expected, it was a miner working on the HFDP, whose fellow miner dug the ground out from under her. Oops. Olin Wheeledwhispers, first of the founders to die, you will be missed. At least you didn't have a lover to drag out of the gene pool with you seriously dwarves should be able to remarry after their spouse's death grumble grumble grumble

Now it's the 2nd of Obsidian of the same year, and I'm getting the mass grave level ready. Oh, and this is the same fort where I got a king in the second year because v40 hates me.

Are they both genders? You can breed them and use them as living turrets.

205-01-01: Yet another year! Only a couple deaths, and the FPS is nice and steady around 30 which is damn well good enough.

Finally got around to start construction of my pumpstack. "Only" 62 z-levels long. Guess I can smooth the whole thing while I wait for the parts for the pumps.
Guess I will need some more glassmakers for this on.

...perhaps I went a little overboard with the digging and smoothing and engraving.

Looks great though.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The little block of ramps and fortifications should be right by the edge of the map and the ramps are unusable so only wagons can go up that way. Assuming I'm not mid-flood it should be clear enough for wagons to get in, I intend to move the original 20 into that block of stone in the middle of the moat (it links underground to the rest of the fort, the covered pastures are visible as the big flat magma-covered surface at the bottom left) and get everything set up so I can raise the pop cap a bit higher, maybe 80 or so since this fort isn't a mountainhome or anything, it's just there to serve as bait for the last few zombie armies so I can laugh uproariously as The Face of Armok barfs his love all over the place.

Magma crabs can actually be neither tamed nor bred, but that's what hacking the raws are for.

Careful where you tread in the primal land of the raws, though. I tinkered with the most foul and awful of all beasts - the raven.

Giving it webshooter is a bad idea.

So many dead.

Why? Why would you do that?

So preoccupied with whether or not you could that you never stopped to think about whether or not you should, huh? Let me guess, nature found in a way in the end?

Year 38.  Population 123.  I finally filled out my third melee squad.

I had to route my river underground.  I embarked at the river's source, and the spread-out source streams meant that there was no practical way to build a walled courtyard without completely enclosing the source streams but not the river's outlet.  The method I used to accomplish this was to put the river underground and wall off the now-dry riverbed.  I hope nobody in the hundreds of miles downstream this river used to run was depending on that water for anything.

The elves keep dropping by to talk about the tree canopy in my neighborhood, but they remain silent about the downstream ecological disaster.

1. Release both magma crabs in a sealed room
2. Let them breed until satisfied
3. Unlock door, magma crabs flood out into cage-trapped hallway
4. ???
5. Profit!
