The theory is that a stronger start will give you an initial advantage that propels you into a stronger endgame.

That said, unless you're using the SHIVs *solely* as a plasma sponge, I think you'd be better off with building the Japan bonus supersoldier into a debuff machine and letting rookies mooch off kills than taking SHIVs who are more like space fillers that don't get promotions.
Now I wonder if there's any scope to mod SHIVs to gain XP and promotions, lol.

But oh well. They'd be too strong if that was the case, and plasma sponge is already their designated callsign.
If you pursue the right research and engineering, they can be equipped to improve their stats and provide new abilities. Although MECs will outstrip then quickly in all those fields.

However, SHIVs cannot be mind controlled, while much more deadly MECs can. Worth a bit of consideration.

S.H.I.V.s have their uses, even endgame it can be nice to have someone completely expendable, but you always want your super-special-awesome heroes to be all of the everything.

Ok, I have done an initial remake of as many soldiers as I could easily. I tried to redo either as they were or if possible a bit more like the original request.

Here is what we have so far.

Actually, I believe one of the German Privates became Gisselle, due to a lack of male Germans for Krauss. Regardless, the return of Gisselle pleases me.

Ah, yes, I seem to have missed Gisselle is the roster updates. Regardless, she's not the one Rince Wind wants, so it should all be good.

This is acceptable. Given that the Gunner is a support class, high mobility isn't a requirement. :p

Though a highly mobile gunner is a thing of beauty. :D And it helps as their heavy weapons slow them down anyway, though it is not as bad as with Rocketeers.
