• Keep in mind that I'm going to try to use this for an online roleplaying kind of dealy and so it should at least be roughly playable. Don't worry about this too much, I can clean up most stuff.

Magitech & Mythical Fantasy!

Magitech - Magical technology. Giant flying spaceships powered by the essence of magic itself, telephones using electricity elementals, laserguns shooting crystalised aether.
Mythical Fantasy - The gods still walk the earth. Their mighty magical powers and purity of essence pervade the very air around them. Great beasts of pure magic roam the land. Very high fantasy.

I'll start:

Once, the manifest-gods spread their blessings through complex arcane and divine rituals but now their power (at least in the civilised parts of the world) is spread through technology crafted by the finest arcano-engineers.

The God's essences are stored in huge crystals buried deep under the earth with some pieces having split off and risen up nearer to the surface over time, naturally drawn to the heavens. These crystals have been mined and are being used as powerful energy sources. No-one dares to try and mine from the original hub crystals as even the least religious do not want to risk the world's aspects falling into disarray.
(Essences of the gods, not the gods themselves.)

Each divine being is attuned to a single specific sphere of influence, or aspect. These aspects can be primitively simple or extremely complex. The crystals attuned to that deity, and subsequently that deity's aspect, are therefore capable of being used in arcane constructs relative to that aspect leading some crystals to be far higher in demand than others.

These crystals are heavily employed by several civilizations and nations who harness the essences into different types of energies based on the crystal's aspect. These energies power simple constructions to entire cities who use these energies to manipulate the world, in great or minor ways depending on the type and amount of energy used.

There was an Era of Peace for Centuries, But then, The Crystals Fell into the Hands of a Psychopathic Despot who used their Power for selfish means.

Although this was all just false rumor made by  someone who wished  to increase political tensions.

Smaller gods who are bound to the land or to objects, commonly known as spirits, are used by the barbarians on the edge of the civilised lands to power their magic rituals.

The Primordial Bog was a vast swath of marshland that had developed an extreme variety of life, and the crystals there were ones of harmony, encouraging every being from the lowliest bacteria to the mightiest beast into a symbiotic relationship. A Republic of sorts was formed, comprised of the concerted efforts of all the swamplands.

And Many Wept whenever The Primordial Bog began to spread over the World, Using the Power of it's Coordinated Crystals. Fortunately, It was slow to begin with and some escaped it's Wrath.

Despite many rumours and fear-mongering, the Primordial Bog has been shrinking, as the spirits and crystals are exploited as resources by more industrious nations.

The spread of the bog was eventually stopped with the invention and deployment of four gigantic god-pillars, taken from enormous crystals which had risen to the surface- somehow fortuitously just as they were needed, and in a position where they would be found and deployed in time to prevent the bog from its creeping spread.

The First pillar, the Sky Pillar, belonged to the nation of the Arveen, a faction of tall, slender humanoids, and their servile sub-race, the sprites - beings made entirely from the magic of the crystals.
Ephemeral, but powerful in groups, and each possessed with a personality in line with the god of their fashioning aspect.

The second pillar, the Earth pillar belonged to the Dwellers, a loosely organized bunch of short and hardy humanoid creatures. The only reason they constructed the earth pillar was because they wanted to keep their mines from becoming boggy wet areas with no ore at all.

Sprites are a natural occurrence everywhere there are significant groups of aspect crystals.
They can appear as anything from differently coloured fireflies, to ribbons of color, or even small humanoids, based on their strength, aspect and temperament.
They also can be (and are) artificially manufactured.

The Deellers treat fire sprites as a necessary nuisance, lighting their tunnels and leading them to crystals, and to detonate stray gas pockets (usually by being forcibly seized and then whacked down the shaft with a club). They're fortunately very resilient and don't remember things for long, much like their namesake aspect.

The Fire Pillar was maintained, until recently, by the Thinking Trees of the Kalhani Rainforest. Wars with the Alvay Confederation has seen them lose the Pillar to their enemies and their own numbers diminishing.

The Alvay Confederation are made up mainly of the Higantes, a species of elephantine sapients, and concern themselves mainly with fighting back foreign influences.

The creatures Born Of Bog (or BOB as they came to refer to their civilization) developed a form of telepathy with each other, so that all those within could understand each other. Strangely, when they looked outside the Bog, they could not hear the forms that writhed beyond. This confused and frustrated
the BOB very much.

The Order of Blue are a mysterious knightly order of various races how have discovered who to contain spirits within their own body, something that normally is fatal to either the spirit or the 'container'. No one is quite sure where they get their recruits. They operate in all nations for their own interests, which seems to be ensuring order for the most part. They'll sabotage a weaker nation so it loses quickly in a war, or prevent that larger nation from capturing key points.

Distinctive in their heavy knight's armour, their faces are always hidden, and they seem to have some method of travelling without notice. It is surmised they may have a deity of transportation sealed in some hidden lair, which teleports them too and fro.

The nation of Baruanz, a constitutional monarchy who has been researching arcano-constructions have created the "Prismatic Cannon". The Prismatic Cannon is an invention that is used as a conduit to unleash often deadly crystal energies that are known for their colorful displays that change depending on the aspect of the crystal that is used to fuel the cannon. Using a fusion of basic technology and alchemy the Prismatic cannon was first created as a barrel connected to several mechanisms that shot out a stream of energy. This was then adapted into a type of "fireworks" that employed cheap energies to fire non-lethal displays of colorful energy into the sky that could be seen at any time of day. The Baruanzian military also use type of short-range Prismatic Cannon that were essentially pikes that fired a small burst of energy whose range were often seen up to 20 ft. Although experimental, many more practical uses of the Prismatic cannon are under progress.

The final pillar, the Sea Pillar, belonged to the Eastern Sea League, which was made up of various tribes and nations of sentient squid, cetaceans, and the aquatic humanoids known as Melkorvians. Since the League split up during the Gyndaraxi Crisis, the question of who ultimately controls the Pillar is a matter of much contention among the former League members.

The centuries-long standing problem of communication between the BOB and the outswamp world was eventually solved by an Arveen who noticed an odd pattern in the naturally occurring harmony sprites around the swamp.

After years of failures, this Arveen managed to produce a manufactured sprite that could communicate both through BOB telepathy, and more normal outswamp speech. These were later mass-produced for those acting as intermediaries, however the natural forgetfulness and boisterousness of the sprites caused more then one diplomatic incident.

Despite this, the problem of the swamp-growth was eventually successfully communicated to the BOB, who provided needed resources for the construction of the pillars.

This might be a bit hard to follow; kinda tired when I wrote this.

...In the 1452 year since the founding of mother Kelph, reports were heard of barbarian horseman unifying under one ruler. At the time, such news was ignored as either hearsay or unimportant. If they had known how wrong they were surely the nest two centuries would have been quite different.

...'Why were they called the Turban Horde?' the reader would ask. In the Steppes from which the Turbanites originated from, the colour and pattern of an individual's scarf identified their tribe. When Akiji was still a lesser warlord upon the Steppes, he took on the habit of wearing grass scarves upon his head. This was both against custom and yet oddly unified the khan's early warband. His followers soon followed his example. As such, when the Horde burst out of their homeland, they wore green turbans to show their loyalty to their leader....

An Introduction

...And so, in the year 1454, khan Akiji unleashed the full might of his horde upon the civilised nations. The surface Dweller kingdom of Ahuraz was the first to fall, its king flayed alive for insulting the khan's culture. Then came mighty Rhaza, the thousand cities of the Ghelteen Coast, the Farrites and even mother Kelph. It seemed as if these barbarians from the western steppes would conquer the whole world.

Despite the eventual fall of the Horde's dominion, few Turbanites blame their strategy or tactics for their defeat. Blaming only the female khan Dadenay and the string of warlords that fought for rule, most only remember the Turban horse archers and mages with nostalgia. Under Akiji's rule, the Turban tribes were organised into groups of 10, 100, 1000, 10000, 100000 and so on. Relying on the traditional horsed archer, the Turbans were quickly able to invade enemy countries and take what ever plunder they could carry. Unlike traditional raiders however, the Turban Horde had a discipline that is even now still famed in lands devastated by them. Of course, it was not the horse archers of the steppes that brought the civilised worlds to its knees, although it certainly helped. Akiji gathered shamans into battalions and instilled in them discipline. No ordinary ruler had before dared to put together a force of magic-wielders in fear of betrayal. Suffice to say, Akiji was no ordinary ruler and soon had the first soldier-shamans, who would come to be known as mages. The next two centuries would see battles dominated by these mage cabals until the advancements in technology made such magic-wielders obsolete.

Chapter 7: Innovations

...Of course, empires do eventually fall and the Turbans were no exception. On khan Qeru's deathbed, he chose his daughter Dadenay as his successor. As the Turbans are traditionally a patriarchal society, this caused a great uproar. Even as grandaughter of Akiji, many were upset with the decision and this led to severe infighting...

Chapter 10: The Reign of Khan Dadenay

...The Order of the Blue was instrumental to the eventual collapse of Turban power in [whatever this part of the world is called], resulting in the expulsion of the Turban rulers of the successor states and the majority of their tribes...

Chapter 11: The Anti-Turban League

The Turban leaders that went into hiding have changed their identities to moguls and influential politicians under different names. They seek to reunite once their strength is gathered and rise once more as the Turban Horde. For now, they bide their time sowing discord among different nations and deliberately fail negotiations between nations.

The Alvay Confederation

The Alvay are likely the Least advanced race in terms of using aspects and crystals, relying on their brutish strength and size to solve most problems.
That isn't to say that they're intelligent, however they are primarily xenophobic and conservative- so crystal magitech has been very slow to proliferate throughout their kingdom.

As such, they have not been maintaining their pillar, and it slowly declines, being barely sustained by the efforts of whatever Kahlani trees have managed to adapt and survive within the Bog.
However, there is some evidence to show that the Alvay have been able to shift the lines of the bog simply through sheer willpower, massive labor population, and shovels.

The Dwellers are a race of (3 feet/1 meter) short humanoids, commonly with large amounts of facial hair. Their technological and magical advancement is strange as nearly all Dwellers have some fear or hate of magic, But they are nowhere near our technological levels as well, using magma instead of crystals and complicated gear mechanisms in place of magic constructs.

The average dweller is hardworking and social, often going to great lengths to create parties and the like. Some have on odd form of a mental disease which causes one to 'fall into moods' and create random objects.They have also been known to create massive underground forts to protect from invaders.
As they do not care much for magic the Earth pillar is slowly falling disrepair but thanks to the Dweller's hardy construction it will likely be the last to fall.

At the heart of Dweller spirituality is a deep desire, both traditional and highly personal, to dig until they have reached the center of the world. Despite their outward neglect of modern magical work, they have an abiding respect for the small-gods of their mines and workings, of natural caverns, and of the underground rivers which they occasionally breach.

Although it has reached the ears of outsiders in only a handful of vague accounts, Dwellers believe that just as there are small-gods of places in the Beneath, so too must there be a god of the world which resides in a vast, crystalline cavern deep below the seas of magma. This is why they expend such great efforts to tunnel ever downward, even unto the point of building great pistons and mechanical pumping systems to aid in the construction of vast stairways through the burning world-ocean of the Beneath.

In some places the Dwellers have even built cities around these artificial columns, floating on the surface of the slowly writing magma, and plying its viscous waves with one of their few magics: fine adamant-hulled ships spelled against the overwhelming heat. These are their most sacred places, the closest they have come to their secret goal. The Dwellers have centuries yet and are patient folk, and so they wait, they plan, and they dig.

Since the enormous crystals which form the god-pillars had arisen so mysteriously and so suddenly, many theories have surfaced about their true nature and purpose. Strange hieroglyphs recently found in the ruins of an ancient Jhulani temple in the Southern Desert predicted the spread of the Primordial Bog several hundred years beforehand, along with the creation of the god-pillars. Beyond this, the hieroglyphs become damaged and hard to interpret, but they point to the pillars having a greater destiny beyond keeping back the bog.

When the former Eastern Sea League first discovered the crystal that would be the Sea Pillar, they had whale shamans examine it with their sonar magic. Though they could not get a clear picture due to a great deal of magical interference from the crystal itself, they determined that the crystal was at least partially hollow and seemed to contain a great deal of chambers of various shapes and sizes. Though they were not able to access the other chambers for study, they theorized that the rest would have similar internal structure. Whether the crystal chambers would be identical or not was a matter of great debate, as was the purpose and possible contents of these chambers.

In his "Great Critique of Nations" the Elani Lord General Arsepias criticized the BOB for their apparent lack of technological progress. Stating that their outright refusal to adopt the more typical crystal powered machinery of other nations would "inevitably lead to their absorption into the Elani Empire"

The reigning BOBBIE countered that Arsepias had failed to notice the unique technological progression that the biology of its very citizens provided.
Stating: "The harmony between all creatures great and small has allowed our citizens to specialize to such a degree that they can perform functions normally reserved for advanced machinery. With insects hollowing out homes in the great trees, the Crystalline Parasites offering their magical strengths to those who host them, even viruses designing themselves to not effect our biology we have achieved a standard of living that is, in my opinion, far higher then that of those reliant on their clunky machinery. Particularly the Elani."

Scholars tend to refer to this ability of the BOB as "Biotech"

I'd assume they're made up of a few gigantic crystals which have been cut to a shape and bonded.
Although each race made theirs differently, the most simple being three tiers, each made up of 6 long crystals bonded into a pillar (dwellers), and the most complex being a gigantic heart-pillar, made from very few of the gigantic crystals, and to make up the size, a huge collection of small crystals interlaced with charred and sullenly glowing tree-roots. (Thinking forest).

The sea-pillar, uniquely, has a core made from one absolutely colossal crystal which literally wouldn't have been possible to move normally were it not for the convenience of the sea.

It can only be speculated that whatever inhabits the other crystals formed after their construction, and began to form the bonded crystals to their desire.

To the north of the Alvay Confederation lies the Pearl of the Eastern Sea, Kelph. The city was founded and is still primarily inhabited by Higantes. Of smaller stature, the Kelphian Higantes make up for this with the flexibility of their tusks and ears. Kelph is a city of adventure and riches for both locals and visitors alike; a stroll down the Grand Bazaar might lead to a new expedition to chart the Southern Lands or fight in one of the many wars. In some quarters, old mage cabals and shamans practice their arts right next to the newly built science academies.

Of course, Kelph has only been able to maintain its affluence through two factors: its several colonies throughout the Eastern that send back raw material, and the presence of the great goddess Kelph within the city of Kelph. The Higante goddess takes pride in what her people, through her guidance, has been able to accomplish. Through trade, intrigue and at times outright war, Kelph has seen the Pearl of the Sea rise ever higher...although memories of the Turban razing of the city still leaves a mark on both the deity and the city itself.

While ostensibly a Higante nation, Kelphans never truly cared for race or species, in stark contrast to their Alvay brothers. Indeed, they have even broken the tradition of matriarchy; males and females are both allowed to enjoy equality in society...supposedly. Regardless, squid, dweller, arveen and many other races under the sky call Kelph and her colonies home. Indeed, several have risen up to the position of Councillors in the ruling city councils. The amateur historian and professional silk merchant Tevor Akini is one such man.

While the goals and duties of each individual within Kelph is their own, except those due to mother Kelph and her cities, there have been talks of a major expedition into the Alvay lands. While forbidden to cross into the Confederation due to mining an ancestral grave, the Fire Pillar offers a magnificent bounty for many Kelphan moguls. With its natural protectors either dead or defeated, it has been left unguarded. Aware of the Alvay's own victories against the Bog, many Kelphans now plot to sneak pass Alvay territory, locate the Fire Pillar and mine it. Of course, all such discussions are illegal and against the directive of mother Kelph. No true son of Kelph would dare break a direct order...

These profiteers of Kelph are also eyeing off (In a purely hypothetical sense, honest sailor, glory to mother Kelph) the sea pillar located far to the north of themselves.
To get there would require a long sail (Argh in not wanting to quantify how large the bog-square is) north along the shore of the bog, and the subjugation of whatever tribe happened to be inhabiting the flotsam quay which currently surrounds it- but could provide profitable mining without risking angering the Alvay (just everyone else, and whatever is inside it).

However the isolated nature of the sea-pillar makes this an even less realistic dream, especially as the sullen blue hue of the pillar makes it blend in with the sea and sky, making it very difficult to find, despite posessing whatever scraps of maps were left from the dissolution of the ESL.

Many consider the Northern Forest to be uncivilized wilderness, but the inhabitants of the Yvolkan Kingdom would disagree. Comprised mostly of human and bearfolk inhabitants, the kingdom is actually quite wealthy, primarily from trading their abundant timber and furs. It is home to many stately timber lodges that would but most of the palaces of the south to shame, all owned by powerful merchant and nobles.

The position of nobility is open to all races who prove themselves highly capable combatants and leaders, though most nobles tend to be either human or bearmen. Noble titles are non-hereditary; an individual must prove him or herself and be approved by the Yvolkan Noble Council, but many nobles do tend to be the sons or daughters of nobles themselves. The title of king or queen is likewise not hereditary; when the old monarch dies, a new one is selected by the Council of the noble they believe most fit to rule.

Though the Yvolkan Kingdom has no tradition of crystal magic, which is probably why many consider them "barbarians", They do very well with bound spirits. Those mages who mock Yvolkan magic are often trepidatious to face any amount of bearmages in battle, and for good reason. Bear magic is exceedingly powerful for spirit magic, though rarely practiced by any other than bearfolk themselves due to the great deal of strength and endurance it requires.

Unbeknownst to the rest of the world, far far to the east, the ESL had not fallen. Founded as a colony of the ESL, the Crimson Empire, a collection of cities primarily owned by Crab Men still stood and grew even though there parent empire was gone. Unlike the ESL the Crimson Empire has no access to any pillars and instead uses the pure brute force of their large Crab Men army to protect their borders from hostile sea monsters. A very xenophobic and honor bound society they are ruled over by collection of Elders that have absolute power. Even though they have many cultural differences from the ESL they still consider themselves a part of the ESL.

The Thinking Trees (their name amongst themselves being quite long) of the Kalhani are unique amongst the civilisations of the world for the obvious fact that they are intelligent plant life in a world run by animals. Regardless, the Trees have developed a society of their own that once studied, mirrors those of many other races. Each tree lays claim to their surrounding plots of land. These trees themselves owe allegiance to a stronger tree which are termed Lords by the Alvay. Each Lord lays claim to a fiefdom of the Kalhani and manages the governing of it. The self-given titles of these Lords, when translated into a comprehensible language, are verbose. A Lord who lays claim to only 10 of its own kind may grant itself the title of 'Magnificent Baron of the Whitestone River-by-the-Ancient'. Those with more authority may have a whole host of titles that have thankfully been transliterated to a much shorter, if still lengthy, form.

The trees, despite their sedentary nature, are not at all inactive. Using pheromones which have only been recently discovered by the outside world, they are able to subtly direct pollinators towards certain areas, making them into ignorant messengers and weapons towards others. Weapons, the trees, often have need for not only to defend against invaders but to combat rivals for control of the Kalhani Fiefs. Though odd, the trees have great mastery over the element of fire, most probably due to some kind of innate ability or pheromone. Of course, there has been speculation that the Kahlani is rich in fire god crystals although this has yet to be proven. Regardless, a battle between rival lords at night can be a most terrifying yet beautiful spectacle with the whole land on fire and armies of pollinating creatures pressed into the Lordly armies.

Occasionally crystals fall from the sky itself. Known as Star Crystals, these essences have properties at odds with the crystals found on the planet itself. The only ones found so far have been small in size, equal to that of a sprite-gem.

Those who spend a great deal of time in contact with a Star Crystal are found to become secluded from society and the people who know them closely say that they are never themselves again. It is said that especially prolonged contact can twist the forms of any of the Godsworn races.

According to rumour, an arcano-engineer got his hands on enough of the Star Crystals to power a construct. According to rumour, as soon as the last crystal was installed and the crycuits ((crystal circuits hueuheu) were connected, the golem began to speak in a language no Godsworn should hear and the arcano-engineer was driven mad from the very sound. According to rumour, the golem was never seen again and the arcanist himself was put into a prison for those who have lost their god-granted faculties.

Of course, that is all rumour.
