I'm here for the mecha and the shipping, if I'm honest.

Mostly the shipping. :P

Super-egalitarian is probably the best choice to satisfy everyone - maybe not everyone wants to actually tackle this stuff in a serious way.

Yeah, I'm gonna fall on my sword and give up on this one. No interest in actually turning this into an argument. It would have been cool though...

Yah, should be, GM is taking more than a bit. It's getting to the end of the line, tho.

Mostly the shipping. :P

What even.

This is war! There's no time for that!

There's ALWAYS time for shipping!

War makes it even easier to ship- if you're going to die anytime, might as well find love before you do, no? :P

There's two spots left, somehow. I'm honestly surprised at all of the interest that this game has generated, I didn't expect this many people to join. I would have been happy with only 8 people playing. In fact, we might get more than 12 character sheets, which means that some people would have to be dropped...

On a more serious note, may I swap from the Hamkar to an Ishim-A? I feel we have an abundance of uber-tanks (two Sraoshas and three Hamkars) and lightweights (Harbingers, Ishim-Ds) without anything in between.

Spoiler: Sheet (click to show/hide)

Quite happy to sign up as a replacement or whatever, if there are enough so far.

Edit: I'd also like to call the colour navy for talking :P :))

Seeing as we haven't started yet Elf, you can definitely swap mechs around. I have no problem with that.

yeah, everyone mostly chose a heavy mech. Our maneuver will be really weak...

It's interesting. With space to move, a harbringer with a 6 range 100mm cannon will never be touched by the Hamkar's frontal weapon, which is it's strongest-at best, they can plug away with their 60mm gun, with something like 60%-50% accuracy. In return, the light mech can constantly bring shots on them with pretty much 100% accuracy.

Of course, the Hamkar can take around 6x as much damage in the same area. Still, we can probably expect a lot more smaller mechs than big ones.

IMO, we need all three-light mechs are good at plinking heavy mechs with low retaliation (avoiding the heavy guns), medium mechs are good at thrashing light mechs with their speed/firepower1~, and heavy mechs obviously have an advantage against medium mechs that can't get out of range of their big guns. Artillery mechs are good against everything they can reach...that doesn't run close to them and start to melee their legs, which light mechs are good for due to high speed.2~

1~The combination of 5 speed Ishi Line A with 5 range repeater cannon is best for range and firepower.

2~It's my estimation all of you who take the Hamkar should take the spear rockets for your top weapon-the Ham doesn't get a melee attack, and the 60mm gun has a minimum range of 2. If someone gets into 1 range of you, you won't be able to counter at all. And if you do move to make room for the gun, you can't use your bigger artillery due to the setup penalty-which is great for negating your attack, freeing up his allies to move around. The rockets can be fired point blank tho, while not giving up your AOE damage zone.

See, I think about these things. :P

Indeed; this kind of kiting action was the primary reason I discounted the Sraocha as a melee combatant.  Anything with 5 or 6 MOV will be able to kite it with a 60mm cannon; fall back to 5-6 tiles of separation, hit, fall back, hit.  They can't restrict enemy movement, so that makes them reliant on their ranged weapons (with melee as a bonus).  I also agree that Hamkars should opt for a close-in weapon as well, since a regulated, turn-based action economy means we don't want to have wasted battle turns on the enemy phase.

That said, with our Hamkars, as long as we don't cluster them right next to each other, their artillery can be used to cover each other as well.  We still won't get the free hits from counter actions, but they won't be completely out of luck.

@Culise: Yeah, a good combo will be Sraocha's frontal attacking with artillery/med mechs sneaking in on the flanks, with light mech packs plugging in the holes, and skirmishing/kiting away from them-either the enemy runs into the creeping artillery range, or the Sraocha's will slowly walk right to them, or the light mechs will plink them to death.

IMO, our mobile artillery will be best used as flankers, backed up by fast mechs-and a zoning tool against kiting, not as a WW2 Russian-style Hellstorm barrage on a single target-tho such situation will probably arise.

The 'Spear' Kinetic Rockets I took for my Hamkar have a min range of 1, so I'm not totally defenseless at close range. Still, it's the job of the line mechs to stop the enemy from closing in on us. In return, we'll rain down death on everything the scouts spot for us. Keep in mind we can likely be used for clearing out terrain, entrenched enemy positions and conventional forces (if any), not just enemy mechs.

Sounds to me like someone's volunteering for melee-only duty! It's just smashing and stabbing for you from now on. Shooting! Pfwah!
