Oh yeah, it may not be obvious, but remember we all have torches and things. Swarms tend to be pretty nasty at low levels, because they resist physical damage...

Improvised weapon, 1d3 I believe? Plus the fire damage, which I'm not sure of-tho I know you can light a guy on fire for like 1d6 damage. Fire damage is the important part, because I think (spies on dungeon master rulebook) that rats take half damage from pierce/bludgeon/slash weapons.

Well...I Wonder if fire affects stack? Maybe not on a single creature, but there are a lot of rats to light on fire.

As if this encounter wasn't a clusterfunk already, go ahead, nerf the players. Dose rats already do greatsword damage, and even with torches it'll take us at least two turns to kill even one of them.

Anyway.

Is it possible for Johanna to fire her cantrips point blank at these rats (enemies in her square) without killing herself and/or others? Do I get to roll a spell attack against myself?

I know I could do this automatically at level 2 due to my spell shaping, but I'm not sure if I can now.

I don't see why you would blow everyone up. So ya, you can hit them just fine.
