What this has really done is make me curious about actual Battlefleet Gothic.

I played it a few times with VASSAL and it's pretty fun. However, I think you need a VERY dedicated set of people who have played/will play over a significant amount of time, as it seems like something that only really becomes fun when you've got a lot of experienced people playing. When I played we'd sort of skimmed the rules and stuff and whilst we got the basics, we couldn't really do anything too deeply tactical.

Fucking Yes. Here I thought I'd have to wait to buy an expansion kit. Smart Torpedoes and bombers for days await me.

Imperium lobotomize more than the Tau. They're called Servitors. Occasionally they're called 'people the Inquisition think was someone look at them funny'.

Back to game. I haven't had too much difficulty with any particular game type, but then I'm still in Campaign. I'm certain multiplayer is a different beast.

Also, are bombers still useless compared to Assault Boats right now? I tried a couple games of Chaos single player to get acquainted with the style/carriers (I like idea of carrier doctrine, if nothing else), but it was taking twenty minutes or more of kiting to get anything done against orks, and any time I tried to do anything more complex than 'stay at 12kkm and launch ordnance', I would get screwed.

Imperium lobotomizes you for crimes, either real or imaginary, which is still better than Tau which only lobotomize you because you're human.

Tau...not sure where you're getting them lobotomizing every human they see. Every instance of gue'vesa I've ever seen has them being treated better and with lower casualty rates than their Imperial equivalents.

Very valid, considering that unsanctioned Psykers tend to result in reality hemorrhage and literal deamons coming out of unfortunate Psykers asshole to cause some serious mayhem.

If I only saw lifes of noblemen on some glorious Paradise World I would assume that life in Wh40k doesn't suck.

From what I understand, a huge majority of the Imperium never even sees or hears about Xenos / Chaos. The Imperium is so vast that many of the core worlds are almost totally secure from the outside. They might know about it, but it's kinda like them knowing about a platypus. Until Failbaddon the Harmless comes marching through on some stupid errand or the Tyranids show up or something.

Not to mention there are some ridiculous timeframes between major conflicts so people kinda forget after awhile. For example, the time between this game and the 13th's Black Crusade is almost a thousand years. Even though humans in the Imperium can live for hundreds of years, that's still a damn long time.

Hell, a thousand years ago we actually had REAL crusades.

Horus heresy/Chaos in general proves being a human ain't any better, tho. At least Tau only have one Khornate champion. How many do Humans have, proportional to their population? Oh, that's right. Literally uncountable numbers of heretics.

And considering that more and more humans are becoming psykers? Besides the whole "You had no choice in this, and rather than trying to bother training you in any way, we're just going to feed you to our ravenous god-furnace, where you will die slowly and agonizingly as your very soul is torn to Shreds." I like the assumption you make there. It's full of shit, but I like it. :D Also how you didn't actually give a source for the lobotomization thing. Sterilization and work camps? After what amounts to a rebellion and aiding and abetting the enemy? Hell, Tau are nice and you don't even realize it, because Imperium would've just exterminated the population when they conquered the world in the first place. Tau gave them a chance, and they threw it away.
Tau have a massively different doctrine than Imperium.

Have we already talked about Tac Cog not being in ranked matches?

Bombers and assault boats fill different niches. You use bombers to destroy escorts and light cruisers, while you use assault boats to make big ships less effective. Plus Orky ships tend to have a lot of armor, which makes your bombers do less damage. Using them against the Eldar, for example, sees a lot more success.

with the heavy nerf to microjump and the lack of high energy turn on the ork ships, I find brawling them down and outmaneuvering them still works out. The combo of torps and fast turn on an imp ship means you can put a very scary punch into someone at a very short range. Plus you can usually boost out of the way of their rams if you're watching for them.

You show the greenskins that humanity has the biggest and hardest space c****, as you pund their ships into scrap.
Heck, half of my fleet is fully upgraded towards ramming/manouvers and I'm cleanaing house.

Strong frontal armor + torps + micro-jump+brace for impact = dead everything.

The only scenario where it doesn't work well is against the space hulk. Heck, I even rammed the Blackstone fortress.

Okay, so... been trying to find an nice campaign LP o'this. Unfortunately all of the ones I've checked so far, uh. The players kinda' suck. Hard. Would any of you kind folks happen to know of one where the recorder is actually competent? I... I'd like to watch a run where there's not a loss within the first 2-3 missions.

E: Go figure, an hour or so later I actually find one. Commentary is sparse, but at least the actual playing isn't painful to watch. Mostly. I still don't quite grok why folks don't set boarding actions (and a few other things, like those aiming commands or whatev' if they're not intended to swap between some) to auto. I've yet to see a situation where it wouldn't have done what they ended up doing anyway, faster, and with less distraction from more important things. Don't have the game and almost certainly couldn't play it if I did, but some things appear to be just... painfully obvious?
