And it crashed again. This is getting annoying now. This is the... 8th time?

The most annoying part of these crashes is not that it happens in the middle of a frigging battle but the goddamn load times. Jesus christ, what is with these arse-tier load times? Fucking Rome 2 had a shorter load time on startup. And these unskippable starting logos.

Edit: Apparently there's a known issue right now where 2v2 battles have frequent CTDs. Guess I'm stuck in the campaign for now until that's fixed.

The 1v1 MP is going great, especially compared to Blood Bowl's salt mines. People are RPing like crazy, lots of flavor rich taunting and such, and people just having a grand old time. I managed to play against an Orkish player who somehow managed to both type in perfect ork speak and keep me on the ropes all match. Of course he couldn't counter my secret weapon.

The secret weapon was ramming him into a mine and detonating his engines. It was less a secret weapon and more a spur of the moment thing, but I was chaos so ya know, changer of ways, just as planned, so on so on.

The games does run very heavy on the RAM, 3GBish. Also to those who are looking at reducing graphics options, one of them, I forget which, is a render downsampler, in other words lowering resoultion without lowering the UI quality. So be be mindful of that. But it shouldn't be an issue, as it runs at 60fps solid on my aging Nvidia 760 rig, as long as AA is on low.

But seriosuly it's been so long since I've had an game that's fun. Enjoyable yes, but not fun in the giggling with glee, smashing things with abandon way. Only other game that comes to mind from recent memory is Rocket League.

I wish there was an option to play the campaign map as multiplayer with friends... or play the campaign map as the other factions without the plot missions.

The campaign seems good, offering more structure to the otherwise random string of skirmishes. I haven't played much, but I wish the tutorial missions could be skipped. And along with them, the forced upgrade/skill/crew decisions.

After playing as the Eldar for some time, I find myself putting more thought into maneuvering when directing my Imperial vessels. The effect is limited, compared to the performance of space elf ships, but still, it helps some.

As for watching the ships duking it out, I suppose there's the Tactical Cogitator mode (spacebar), which can be useful for playing around with the camera and taking screenshots while everything is in slow motion.

I watched some LP's and the best skill to have to be good at this game seems to be good memory in order to activate spells maneuvers after their cooldown.

I tried the game and after a dozen of skirmish battles I'm about done with it. MOBA players may like it, I will have to wait for a good tactical fleet command game some more I guess.

Oh, and the new Short-Burn Torpedoes upgrade (+50% torpedo speed) is awesome, to the point I feel it might be nerfed before long.

quick question -

How much is this like Star Battle, the SC2 mod?

or is it much more like World of Warships?

Had a lot of bugs though. Sometimes ships completely stop moving or responding. Skills don't work. Etc. Fun though.

I've only played the campaign, but I got the same feeling. Try checking whether you've got the engines on "full stop". Turns out ships won't turn or move forward until you manually set them to cruise speed again (the normal speed). As for abilities not being used, more often than not you've lost some of the subsystems, like deck or generator or whatever.

I was hoping the campaign would be less linear, and more M&Bish. Kind of disappointed, as I don't really see a point in replaying it. There are fairly few meaningful decisions. Forge world under attack? Better go do that. Otherwise, just do whatever, or defend the 1 or 2 special worlds under attack. It'd be fun if they added an option to be the other races in the campaign, slowly trying to attack and keep worlds. That'd be fun.

EDIT

People seem to like it in general though, even the campaign: https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2016/04/22/battlefleet-gothic-armada-review/#more-361941

Honestly though like most of the handful of losses I've had across all my battles have been due to Orks and their damn Orkiness. Once I figured the Eldar out I went from getting wiped to being the one who wipes. Chaos and the Imperium fight very similarly most of the time. Battles against them feel like I'm watching two old school ships of the line decking it out, which is fine by me because I love naval combat.

But those damn Orks. They're probably the most versatile race, in my opinion. They can go for numbers and tie up your ships while the free ones ram you, or go for massive ships loaded with MOAR DAKKA and will also ram your shit right up in there. It's easy to plan for either one, but since the Orks can throw either at you easily and early on, you have to hope you plan for the right encounter.

In other news...

Went to war for the Chaos Gods, came across some Imperial maggots. The fighting was brutal, but the tides turned when my flagship t-boned theirs into one of their escort ships, causing it to explode and damage the flaghship enough to set it off as well. It was a most glorious victory.

I'm pretty sure the developers plan to add all the factions that are present in Battlefleet Gothic. Though I wonder about some, like the Dark Eldar and Necrons, who only have two and about six ships across the whole faction. A faction pack that only adds two ships seems a bit scarce to sell.

They've added ships for the various factions that weren't on the tabletop at all. Some of the ships in the game currently come from the Forgeworld Books, or even the FFG produced books.

Chaos didn't even have light cruisers in the tabletop version of BFG, so I assume they'll just check through the lore and create as necessary.  The Basha Light Cruiser is invented wholecloth, Hellbringer Light Cruiser is from Rogue Trader
