Background: A former Conquistador, Amets was never the most skilled of combatants, and got along mostly through a winning personality, applied intelligence, and the ability to fix things, be it people, their possessions, or the occasional duel.
Indeed, Amets managed to gather up enough goodwill and respect that when a poorly-aimed musket shot struck a superior officer, a hasty bandage, an elaborate apology, and an offer to pay for the repairs to his armour were enough for the officer to overlook the incident. Mostly. When the Imperium came along and started recruiting, the officer promptly threw Amets' name into the list of candidates suitable to receive sufficient training in the useage of basic Imperial technology to assist in the raising of local Guard regiments.
Whether this "volunteering" was out of genuine belief that Amets would be fit for the role or a desire to not have a soldier with poor aim standing behind him in the firing lines, Amets didn't really care; Imperial tech, with its priestly guardians, was fascinating, the opportunity for advancement and improvement was gratifying, and lasguns were
so much better than muskets. Taking to the training programs (and associated politics) with considerable zeal, Amets recieved several cybernetic enhancements to aid in data retention and use, and was eventually inducted into the (very lowest) ranks of the priesthood and assigned to one of the newly-formed Imperial Conquistador Regiments.
