I think the worse ones are the politicians that don't lie, but manage to bullshit their way around the truth so expertly they would have been more honest had they actually lied, like the kind that can get people to cheer the news their Mum's just been run over by a truck

Rhetoric is kinda required for good public speaking, I'd say. And good public speaking is probably required to go anywhere in politics.

Trump pretty much adlibs his speeches, as far as I know. He has common talking points he tends to repeat each speech, but then again so do most candidates when it comes to talking about their policies and platforms.

They say what they mean with a spin because they are trying to sell an idea.  That doesn't mean it's particularly difficult to guess a politicians agenda from their public statements.  There are the occasional curveballs like Bush deciding to invade Iraq or Obama keeping some of the questionable war on terror civil liberty stuff.  But if you look at the budgets that get implemented for instance, they pretty much resemble the platforms publicly laid out years in advance.

... honestly, as candidates for a political position, neither of those two are someone I'd want to see in office. They both pretty massively buggered up on the political/command side of things. Teach special forces, handle diplomacy while carefully monitored, maybe do some medical stuff, sure, but lead? Administrate? Sorry, but no. The first was a large portion of the reason an entire galaxy-scale nation got usurped basically caesar-style (and was decidedly average, at best, as a military commander, and that with freaking space wizard powers), the second basically presided over the fall (and murder!) of a multi-millennium old religious order, among a whole host of other incompetencies. These are not people I'd want heading the white house.

Also, just saying, but if you've got concerns re: age, Yoda is not someone you want anywhere near the position. Nevermind getting up there, the little gnome is older than the country itself. That's like senility stacked on senility with a side of imminent physical existence failure. No one wants that.
