Yes he had pretty much no backstory before then - I was playing him pretty much as 'angry racist force ghost'.
But now he'll be experiencing character development (or rather redevelopment as it were) and stuff! Yay!

So, Jen is Simon's daughter and Reina is Yoko's daughter. Next thing I know, Buki is Viral's son and Ao is actually Jen's brother. Or sister. We're not clear on that yet.
