I'm afraid not. You'll run into some crap like .net being busy doing some inexplainable magic or whatewer... Not talking about problems to get 24 parallel execution streams.

Just think how big of a fortress you could run with that. You could easily have, like, 300 dwarves before the slowdown sets in.
I need to test that :)

And yes, it is a server. Dell PowerEdge R620. Not the most powerfull or expensive one, by the way. Cost around 6k$. What i wanted to show is that multicore is a thing right now. Hell, even my home pc has 4 cores in it. I'm sure almost everyone has multicores now. And about ram - it's simple, just run a couple of virtual machines.

Why the hell do you have that much RAM? Bragging point, or actual use? If for actual use... Can I ask you to download a program and send me some results after punching in numbers?
Actual use, of course :) It depends on what program it is, and what it needs. I can spare some computational power, provided there's a) a good reason behind it. b) Your code can live inside a vm. Feel free to pm me.

I'm using a Quad-Core i7 Mac Pro, Xcode does a good job of distributing compilation jobs between Core's so I guess at least the coding part will be sped up.

Only 6k?  Damn, technology just keeps marching on.

Uh, wait.  How do virtual machines increase your memory?  Is this *virtual memory*, as in hard drive space used as if it were RAM?  Because that's just swapping, which is slow (maybe less slow thanks to SSDs, nowadays).

You guys did note we use this similarity in our catchphrase all the time, did you ;)

There's quite a lot of insect-hanky-panky going on anyway, males of a species reliably already find females. When two beetles like the same mate they also fight to the death. That's why one sometimes finds dead beetles that your ants had nothing to do with. It's a harsh darwinian world  :D

Oh, I really like that genetics system. It's complex enough to see some cool things happen, but simple enough to code and simulate relatively easily. Every time I've thought about making something based on genetics it's always been a struggle to implement in an interesting way, so kudos on finding a way. I really like the risk vs. reward that's inherent in the multipliers. That's totally something nature would do. Also now I need to get that What If book... good thing Christmas is coming.

The moment the lever was pulled, somebody's pet kitten stepped onto the bridge. I read somewhere that if a cat falls more than 11 stories, it instinctively flares its legs out to increase air resistance. This slows it down enough to stick the landing with relatively minor injuries. In Dwarf Fortress, apparently, cats don't do that.

Thats fine, like I said, if you can't spare a buck, please share, vote or tell a friend, we are happy for any help we can get  :)

Currently writing the code for the ants to store items in the designated stockpiles, was thinking about streaming some gamedev via twitch but I'm kind of wondering why anyone would want to see me type some 'if''s and 'for's XD

My connection is to bad to make use of something like twitch (that's a kind of life feed, right?), but I am surely interested in seeing code being written. I guess I could learn a thing or two that way.

This looks spectacular. SimAnt was probably my first big video game obsession. I rented it for SNES from the video store every week for about a year before we finally got a computer and I got it on a floppy disk for Windows for Christmas... So very many hours of my youth. In fact, it never occurred to me before, but my childhood love of designing and digging nests probably influenced my immediate love of DF when I first discovered it.

Until my current legal and financial difficulties are sorted out, I can't afford to make a contribution, but I'm upvoting you for sure. Please don't abandon this, because it's kind of amazing and deserves to be finished. I'm very impressed by how much progress you've made already.

The general public still hasn't really found us, the major games outlets seem to distrust kickstarters nowadays, maybe because a lot of them never delivered their game. The one thing we are not lacking is professionality, since I did much bigger (but more boring) software projects for companies like Viacom in the past. But they don't know that..

If you guys&gals are bored, I won't stop you from also writing the big news reporters who wrote about DF or similar games in the past, that's what we tried, but maybe we can convince them with numbers  :D.
(Rock Paper Shotgun, IGN, gamespot...)
