In an excellent PR move, the US, Canada, and Ukraine were the only nations to vote against a Russian proposal to the UN General Assembly's Social, Cultural and Humanitarian committee condemning "attempts to glorify Nazi ideology and denial of German war crimes." 57 nations abstained, and 120 approved it. The US and Canada apparently block this proposal every year.

Edit: My bad,  RT falsely claims Ukraine voted no. The third no comes from the Marshall Islands for some reason.

Germany abstained? I thought that was the sort of thing that they'd love.

I can understand the US and Ukraine block of it, but... Canada? That one still leaves me scratching my head.

We've got a Prime Minister who caters to the every whim of the Americans because apparently Canada can't have its own foreign policy. Before him, we had an entirely different stance of many world issues. Harper's done much to ruin our reputation abroad.

Well, it would entail calling a lot of independence fighters (and Finland) Nazis, and dispproving of tearing down statues of Stalin (point five). There's tons of problematic stuff in there, really.

The age-old adage of "your terrorists are our freedom fighters", eh?

Personally, I thing the poor Germans are just plain tired of everybody shoving Nazism in their face.

Why the heck would the US be against that? Besides letting geopolitics decide for things and just to shove a no vote into Russias face. I took a look at the summary and something that deals with intolerance in general would be a good thing.

You don't think politics even remotely care about anything but the politicians' metaphysical penis sizes, do you?

I did say BESIDES geopolitics and shoving a no vote into Russias face.

Also, not sure whether you're trying to ask me whether I think politics even remotely cares about anything besides the politicians metaphysical penis size or something else?.... dang rhetorical question or I dunno.

They disagree with the language used in the resolution.  It's not like people are really dying to know what the UN thinks about the whole Nazi movement.  It's a completely meaningless semantic difference that the Ruskies just latched onto as an excuse to say US bad hate russia..  I mean at the risk of Godwins law's I'm going to point out that the Nazi's literally ran Germany between 1932 and 1945.  You know who else ran Germany during those years?

Right, forgot about Harper... is it bad that it was actually disappointing to me that he wasn't shot during the whole incident a few weeks ago?

Your whole parliament could have gotten shot up too.

Yeah, the bill introduced language stressing that it's bad to tear down monuments erected to those that fought Nazism for example. Somehow, I could understand why the Ukrainians for example would not be very enthusiastic when told they should keep monuments celebrating the Red Army.

It also includes a call to making illegal all racial superiority speech, which is incompatible with the First Amendment, so I guess that's why the US voted against it.

Frankly, it's a nice little PR move from Russia.

Yeah, looked like he looted a Stahlhelm from a museum or something. Can someone identify the battaillon's blazon? Also, where are those trenches?
