Sergarr, sweetie, please calm down. You are like my evil twin or something - we have the same views, mostly, but you profess them by ranting and hollering.

Less then 24 hours after the Toad is in the thread and you are already insulting other posters.
Knit tie's post didn't sound like an insult to me. The definition of an insult varies wildly among people here, I guess.

Back to the topic: Putin's press conference will begin in an hour and a half. In my opinion, it's very likely that he won't tell anything important and will talk about something completely unrelated.

I must say Knit Tie, your post made me want really hard to just post something snarky and condescending. I don't have the time now, but I'll write a correct answer to it later.
That's a recognised piece of classical Russian literature, you know.

Oh wait, you mean the "Why I support Russia" post? Of course you'll want to be snaky and condescending, I am directly disagreeing with your fundamental political views there.

It was inevitable.

It's more the way you disagree, but more on that later.

Too emotional? I thought so myself. Or too radical? I mean, these are the cores of our current worldviews and value systems that we are talking about, it's almost impossible to be rational here.

Yes, even dead cats bounce. I wouldn't be very happy about that support at 60.

Cod War? What Cod War? heh, yes I know you mean cold war, just ribbing ya on the typo.

Cod War is when an Scotsman and an Englishman meet at a fish'n'chips stand?

You are right, I think.

I really should've kept the tone down - it sounds too categorical, militant and uncompromising the way I've written it.

Putin's big talk.

In English.

Looks like the bottom is starting to fall out again mid speech. Right as soon as the Ukraine questions began. 63 when I started typing this, now 64.

We'll see what the result is when the day is over.

Yes, it'll still be above 60, and has opened a new trading corridor to the 80's.

Oh, by the way:

http://www.stolica.onego.ru/news/249805.html

http://windowoneurasia2.blogspot.fi/2014/12/window-on-eurasia-separatism-in-karelia.html

"Karelian separatism" supported from finland. That is utter bullshit. Looks like Russia's propaganda ministry is initiating stage 2 in creating a "thought atmosphere". I do not really care how important or unimportant that paper or that fellow Pirotshnikov is so excuse me please. If views of mongers like these differ from the official one they should be condemned but that never, ever, happens.

There can be no "separatism" in Karelia because theres basically no cultural or language left. Almost everyone from those areas moved away during the wars(thats something like 30% of the entire population that lost their homes), USSR did a good job on the survivors and many of those few left were granted permission to migrate in Finland as "returning immigration" by a set of special laws in early 90s. Anyone who has the remotest reason to be a Finno-Karelian "separatist" can simply move abroad. It should be also noted that Finland does not have an organization that could, or have authorities to, do foreign military or civil intelligence. There have been political discussions on the creation of such an organization this year, by splitting the SUPO(more or less what FBI is in US) organization into a new foreign intelligence part and a homeland civil intelligence(police) part that would be merged with other existing organizations like the KRP.
