Hatched in the flooded caverns under a great desert oasis ruled by the Blue Dragon Kurikolik Thurirlmaug and his mate Sventerunt Sjakarthel, Thurkix was one of several experiments by the pair to create more powerful (or otherwise useful) minions. In Thurkix's case, his gifts gave him power but made him difficult to control; while Kurikolik and Sventerunt were reluctant to destroy such a potentially useful tool, they were even more reluctant to have such a potentially cunning and coercive individual left uncontrolled among their other servants.
They decided that rather than waste their experiments, they would send Thurkix out to act in their name in the wider world and observe the results, to decide whether the experiment was worth repeating, or a failure. He spent some time travelling the desert, and even the world beyond, doing business on behalf of the Blues, tracking down information for them, communicating with people of interest to them, and more.
As a result, Thurkix was one of the few servants of the Dragons that survived when the oasis was attacked by a mated pair of Copper Dragons and their Gnome allies, being absent at the time. While some of the Aquatic Kobolds and other servants (that lived deep enough under the water the attackers could not reach them, and could not leave it themselves) survived, the majority of servants rallied to the defense of their rulers- and perished. The Copper Dragons and Gnomes vanished shortly afterwards, and Thurkix managed to recover the hidden eggs of his creators, spending the next year or so tending to the eggs, and over half a decade aiding the hatchlings.
Eventually, the hatchlings went their own ways, save Kosjikroth, the smallest of the brood, whose egg had been damaged before Thurkix had recovered them and thus had needed a great deal of care to survive, and viewed Thurkix with a strong enough combination of affection, gratitude and security-blanketness to stay by his side.
The next few years were spent continuing his searching among libraries, sages, diviners and other sources of information, this time with an eye to tracking down the disappeared slayers of his creators. Eventually he met with partial success, finding both a member of the vanished group and a party of adventurers searching for an object in the enemy's possession (an object that could prove highly useful, at that). And so he joined with the group to hunt down the dreaded Gnome Lich Vorrick "Krixi" Glitterbowie of Queli. Since then, he has stayed with the group, both as an adoptive family of sorts and as a potential path to fulfilling his aims.
