In his annoyance, Asher had forgotten just where he had been in his notes.

"Ah, er, yes. The undead beyond the waygate were animated by divine magic. Or at least I think they were because that's the only magic I could sense from them."

Tomik had woken up briefly with the sun but had simply gone back to sleep with his arm around Lilly. When she left, he stirred again but didn't fully wake up until the ship shook. Starting awake, he shook his head and looked around. The shake had knocked one of the saddlebags on Modra loose. Walking over, he started to fasten it again when he felt the shape. He'd almost forgotten... Pulling a wrapped cloth bundle, he closed the saddlebag and went a few steps away, sitting down and staring at the object, still wrapped in the cloth.

Harlan, not having much to do and having little interest in what made a flying ship fly, sought out Ketsuki instead. Where could she be...?

Ketsuki, having had her question answered, was brooding and staring over the railing towards the distance waygate.

Harlan approached the cyclopian swordswoman and leaned over the railing off to her side.

: "So I was a little far away back there...was that man that "master" you spoke about?"

Seeing that Tomik was awake and preoccupied with a cloth-covered object, Lilly made her way over to him.

"Good morning. Whatcha got there?"

"... I don't think Laura likes me very much."
He probably is talking to Harold.

: That's strange. Not that I know much about animation but also the fact that you're interested about animating dead or inert things. There aren't many people working on that since... Did you say your name was something like "Asher Sangley"?

Harold watched Laura go.

: Might be the effects hell has on you. Not everyone takes it the same way.

Suddenly Mason also joins in.

: That might also be the fact that I told her her country was recruiting and probably brainwashing criminals into the army.

Harold glanced aside at Mason, but didn't say anything.

Ketsuki glanced at Harlan.
"...yes. Yes, he was. When he sent we away, he set off for the Waygate to investigate it himself. I guess... that was the result. I am sorry."

Tomik looked up at Lilly and slowly unwrapped the package. Soon a strange helm was revealed, the visor made up of smaller jointed sections. He rolled out around in his hands before slowly answering.

"My father gave me this when my sister and I left our home. He... he gave it to me and asked me to watch over my sister, use it to help keep us both safe. I wore it for a while but then... when I almost lost her, it felt like a reminder of that every time I put it on.  And I never felt like I could wear it again because every time I do something to protect her, it seems we just end up worse off than we were before."

Lilly came over to his side and sat beside him, putting her arm around his waist.

"I see."

"I don't think that's true, though. You just have to do the best you can, every day. We've... all made mistakes in the past. But... maybe some day we have to just try to move past it unless we want to live our lives in regret."

She leaned over and kissed Tomik's cheek.

"And if you two hadn't ended up in Stronbahn, we never would have met. Maybe Mason's breakout plan would have failed if you and Senija weren't there. So... I'm grateful, at least."

Tomik smiled and put his arm around her shoulder, pulling her in slightly closer.

"True. Perhaps I will start wearing it again. Keep my hard head even more protected."

He grinned at her.

"Might be."
Kyle turns to Mason.
"I suppose she might be upset about that... Though it's not really new technically. Who do you think becomes the regular rabble in the army normally? It sure as hell ain't those hoity toity noble types..."

Lilly smiled back and rested her head on his shoulder, comfortable and warm.

"I have to admit, I'm kind of torn between wanting to see how it looks on you and thinking it would be a shame to cover your face up..."

Tomik blushed.

"Well, I'd only wear it during battle. So, uhm... you get both?"
