(Er, italics = thinking. Can Lidia read minds? :P)
(Yep!)

: Please don't call me child, I'm nearly 30 years old. My name is Lidia.

"Da? Let's not compare ages; consider it a compliment, Lidia. You have a youthful look about you."

Wolf just didn't want to admit she was as old as she was - which, assuming 'almost 30' really meant '27-28', was old enough to be Lidia's mother.

Lorcann lightly massaged his neck, which had begun to ache due to the intensity of their duel.
:"Yeesh... almost as good. I swear, woman, you're going to kill me... ANYWAY. If you're going to re-join our ranks, hurry up and come along fast, we've got a job to do. This is Duke Vincent, not sure if you remember him; he wasn't a duke before, but he is now."
Vincent nodded politely.
:"Right, right... let's get going, yes?"

The group made their way into the town itself, where there seemed to be some sort of commotion... more than seemed to be entirely necessary, even though the top nobles of the land WERE meeting. The Duke cleared his throat and began to speak, guiding the group to a somewhat quieter section of the city's main square, where yet another tall and opulent building stood, this time with a sign marking it as the city's main station for the D'Orsian military.
:"I was told before we left that we'd have a pair of escorts from the city's military... they probably don't trust you lot in the presence of the king. Aaand with... whatever all this shouting is about, I'm not inclined to put up a fuss."

Said two escorts stood in front of the building; they'd been stationed there to accompany the Duke and his group as they entered the palace, both to make sure no trouble befell them and to make sure they caused no trouble in the King's presence.
The two escorts were a knight of the army and a priest that had been brought along... having been in the square for a little longer than Vincent's group, they'd been there to witness the commotion firsthand... several magical gems in the marketplace had simply shattered, and similar bad luck was being had with most of the other magical items on sale. It was because of the uproar this had caused that the Duke had coupled his introduction with a question, waving his hand towards the tumult:
:"I'm Duke Vincent Silber, and considering I was told to meet here, I'm assuming you two are the escorts I was assigned... do you have any idea what all of this is all about?"
Symon Nell and Leland are in.

The knight in red plate armor gave his best salute.

: "Sir, Symon Nell reporting sir! We are indeed your assigned escorts, sir! Magical items went haywire and caused a commotion, sir! No idea of the cause, sir!"

The red-robed priest gave a sigh and leaned on his staff.

"I've yet to be able to discern the cause, either. I'd suggest just stand back until someone figures it out."

Stray Wolf looked the saluting knight over and gave a gentle snort before she turned away, though whether it was meant to express amusement or annoyance was anyone's guess.

"Perhaps ve should continue on to this meeting. All of this is most likely the vork of counterfeiters and their vares finally blew up in their faces."

"Mmm, I highly doubt that. Even if some of these were counterfeits, it's highly unlikely that they would all explode at once. No... There's something more going on, but I'm not sure there's anything we can do about that right now."

Vincent sighed heavily.
:"Yet another of the fast-growing list of topics to add to the meeting, huh?"

"Feh. It's all magic, fighting for slabyye lyudi and trus. If it explodes in their face they get vhat they deserve."

Stray Wolf crossed her arms and glared at the commotion as if she could put an end to it just by scowling.

"Perhaps this is something ve could investigate as Vincent meets vith the king, to save time and kill two birds vith one stone as you mainlanders say."

Glaring at the other woman, Aira crossed her arms and grumbled.

"We're not cowards or weak. Just because we don't throw weapons around doesn't make us worse than you."

Stray Wolf turned her attention back to Aira.

"So you vould say. Magic requires no skill, no risk. Just open a book and voosh, fire, lightning. No effort required. Just marginalize an opponent's training and skill vith some ink on a page."

"No skill? No risk? Then here. You go ahead. Here's my tome. Go ahead, make a spell. Oh wait, that's right. It requires training and ability to use magic. It requires concentration and practice to make sure that the spell doesn't backfire. It requires just as much skill and training to use magic effectively and powerfully as it does to swing around your little toy there."

Symon held his salute while the two women argued. He knew from practice that he could stay at attention for hours at a time, and he hoped that this show of dedication would impress Vincent.

Stray Wolf looked at her sword, then, perhaps surprisingly, laughed.

"For once the rebenok is correct! Yes, this might as vell be a toy in my hands. Hardly a real blade vorthy of a varrior."

"Perhaps there is hope for the rebenok yet, da?"

She reached over to muss Aira's hair and, again in a surprising manner, was careful to keep the claws of her gauntlet from scratching the younger islander.

Aira blinked in surprise, not knowing to do with the sudden shift in emotion from the older woman. Keeping still while her hair was mussed, she sent a look to Lidia, pleading for some help.
