The mercenary group of the Topaz Lances, though a once powerful mercenary group, has recently built anew by Lorccan Monday. Lorccan has been getting back into the business after having been grievously wounded by a ballista 5 years ago, which resulted in the dissolution of the earlier Lances. Now staffed by warriors with fresh faces, Lorccan seeks to make the group rise to its former splendour. As such, his new group has been on a few minor jobs together, but nothing like the job they had the luck to snag recently: an escort job for a noble. Offering high pay and with a duke Lorccan has previously worked for, this job appears very promising indeed!

Duke Vincent Silber commands one of the more prosperous duchies in the Confederacy, Stein, which is directly next to the richest territory in the area. This has allowed him to put up quite a price... but he went for Lorccan's group only due to personal experience with the man. Vincent has hired the mercenaries to escort him and protect him from increasing bandit attacks. This escort is from his duchy all the way down to the capital of the Pays D'Or, where a meeting of all the territories has been announced by the king... to deal with increasing bandit attacks.

The group is currently along a secondary highway, having after a few days of travel finally crossed the "border" between the noble lands identifying as of the Confederacy, and of those who do not. The hills stretch away on either side, a most serene view.

Fredric Eldridge II, Nero Vargas, Daniel Ragan, Karola Linden, Lidia Turfuka, and Aira Sabeen are in!

:"This country is going to the dogs."

:"That is the fourth time today you've said that. Please, stop."

:"You know I'm right, Vincent."

:"No I don't, because it's not. Lorccan, it's a security problem that we are convening to handle at this very moment. Such a big kingdom as the Pays must be expected to have SOME issues, yes?"

:"Yeah, well... ...I stand by my statement."


Vincent slowly put his palm to his face.
:"Of course you do."

Feeling uncomfortable with the discussion of a country she'd barely had any experience with, having lived inside the mountain islands for most of her life, Aira looked nervously away from the two leaders talking at the front of the group and instead stayed towards the back.

"Pretty view at least... Wonder if we're going to run into any trouble along the way..."

[Parsely]

Lidia chewed quietly on a dry herb she had bought a while ago. It was just as sweet as the peddler had told her it would be. She pondered as she tied the the pouch shut, feeling quite pleased.

: It's been days. How much further could the capital be I wonder..?

[Khaiel]

Nero was at least enjoying this. It was an easy job and it was well paid. He knew that sometimes one just had to relax. And he was travelling alongside three lovely ladies, so he was quite delighted.

"Well, there are bandits. If there weren't, we wouldn't have been hired. But I doubt we will have trouble dealing with a few thugs. And we shouldn't be too far from the capital. If I remember correctly, we have made more than half of the journey already. Ah, it has been a long time since I last was there, and I'm sure you'll love it.  I could take you to some of the special places in the city if you wanted."

"Well, I guess we'll see if any bandits dare attack us yet. I, for one, would like to see some combat before we get to our destination."

[Swordstar]

"Special places, huh? What kind of places are you talking about here?"

[Khaiel]

"There is this beautiful garden next to the house were I was born. The cherry trees should have flowers at this time of the year. Almost nobody goes there because it is a bit far from the center of the city, so it is usually quiet. A perfect place to relax I would say."

Of course it had been a long time since Nero last visited it, but at least he remembered it vividly.

"My father used to take me and my brother there to tell us stories about his youth. It has been a long time since I last went there..."

A part of him told Nero that it might not have been a good idea to talk about his father, but now that he was going back, he had to face what happened.

Crossing her arms, Aira continued to stare at Nero with an eyebrow raised.

"Right. Relaxing. That's the oooonly thing you had on your mind, right?"

Secretly she personally thought the flirt was rather cute, but she couldn't resist needling him a bit more.

[Khaiel]

Aira's words were enough to make Nero stop thinking about the past. Well, at least it seemed like it was going to be fun staying with this group.

"Of course Aira. But there must be more than one way to relax, don't you think?"

[Swordstar]

Grinning, Aira unfolded her arms and walked up the man. Slinging an arm around him, she looked up at the taller man, and said with the grin widening as she did,

"Well now. I'm just a little innocent girl from Ayro, so you'll have to show me these wonderful gardens that you're talking about. Can't say we had anything like that under the mountains. Of course, you'll be a perfect gentleman, right?"

She raised her eyebrow again and smirked up at him, waiting to see how he'd react.

[Parsely]

Lidia rolled her eyes.

[Khaiel]

This certainly amused Nero a bit. Not the answer he was expecting, but he kinda prefered this to what he had thought would be the answer.

"Am I not one always?" He said as he smiled.

Raising an eyebrow, Aira stared at the man with a skeptical look on her face.

"I'll let you answer that question yourself."

[Khaiel]

Ah, the burden of bearing the mark of the flirter. Poor Nero.

"Ah, Aira, your words of doubt hurt me more than any sword. I guess I will have to show you the city of my childhood to make you change your opinion about me." He said half joking.

"I can assure you that you will not regret it if you allow me to guide you through it."

[Swordstar]

A small smile creeping onto her face, Aira nodded.

"Well, how could I refuse a request phrased so sweetly. Very well, we'll have to see your city then."
