Since it seems like most battles are just going to be between pokemon in this game and trainers actually getting into combat themselves seems like it won't be happening, during the battles can the trainers use active abilities to help their pokemon? Or do they just sorta stand on the side as in the games?

Also, damn, I really want to have a honedge as my starter since it's cool as heck, but I am sorta doubting that it would be super appropriate for this game, ether I'd take swordsman classes and be unable to actually contribute most of the time, or take supporting classes and have a question of why I have a sword pokemon when I can't use a sword. Oh dilemmas. Maybe I should just take a magby.

The obvious answer as to why you have a sword pokemon when you can't use a sword is because you have a bleedin' sword pokemon.

When would a human character use special attack?

Actually, I'm pretty cool with a Honedge. 3-stage, cool thematically, etcetera. It could come in handy every now and then, what with Team [REDACTED] running around.

Don't act surprised, you knew it was coming.

As for abilities helping in battle, I'm going to say no for battles under League rules, but it's fine for self-defense, including wild pokes, trainers with threatening opening remarks*, and Team [REDACTED] fights.

*I'm never going to forget them frigging fairy tale girls.

And KJ, there's a few [I forgot what they were called but they were kinda like DnD feats] that let you use Pokémon moves (typically the stat-boosting/lowering kind.)

I may make a character for this after all.
I would like to see what the others do to get a general idea of what I need to include first, though.
Unless they're supposed to PM them to you, in which case I obviously can't.
I can't make one now because I can't download the PDF at the moment, so that's also a contributing factor.

I know, but the only one I qualify for at the moment I like is only useful if I can use those myself. Or I go with dark types and mess with people like that.

Also, I'm thinking of making a technical support character.

Probably a lot less in this game, both Supernatural classes and the Elementalists classes from one of the other books both can offer special class moves. Since both are not in this game, I'm not sure how many ways of getting special moves exist, most Combat Edges still available are physical. So it's probably not a important stat for us.

Anyway, I'll differently get honedge then. I'm not sure what features/class yet. I'll need to think on it.

(mobile, quoting hard)
Lyeos: Sounds cool, I guess we have room. I'm going to put the sheets in the OP anyway.
kj: Sounds cool.

A notification on starting loyalty: If you're getting your starter from Professor Acacia at the game's start, you get 3 loyalty by default; if you've had it for years, 4. I know that that just screams "bonus for no reason whatsoever", but I encourage you to pick the one that suits your character's background best and not succumb to your inner munchkin and rewrite your backstory so that you've had it for years for a free bonus.

Don't expect updates for a couple minutes at least, I'm off to play regular Pokémon.

Basically the entire type list presented is cool, and if you run one by me I'll give you an answer. No normal, flying, dragon, or bug types; no pseudo-legendary first forms.

And Lyeos, I guess you could get right to the game and avoid the waitlist. 4 is tighter than usual.

Alright, I don't have anything resembling an actual character sheet up yet, but I might as well post my general concept with this character.

Essentially, a reclusive trainer and occultist specializing in ghost-type pokemon (Type Ace, if you're wondering). Poor as far as social and physical skills go, but excels with mental skills. As far as the play style I'm planning, it's essentially a very quickly-moving glass cannon (Using a lot of special attacks, of course, since I'm playing a ghost-type specialist).

I should have the character sheet up soon.
I really, really hope I haven't screwed anything up as far as character creation goes, since I'm entirely new to this system.

Alright... One that suits my character... No muchlax...

I'm thinking either Magnemite, Aron (which you turned down, I don't know why), Rhyhorn (overkill), shieldon, and cubone. MAYBE bronzor

Which of these are alright and which aren't and why (I'm confused a bit on this part)

I have one question about type aces. Can they change their pokemon's appearance with the type they can change?
