Well, I have a passable skill in botany, so if it comes to that, maybe we'll be fine. Or maybe not.
Also, I am interested: What is the skill for hunting animals? Rifles/Pistols/Blades/etc., depending on the weapon in question?
And what would be the skill for hunting with bows, if anything? As in, if the expedition members were forced to "go native" in weapon choice for various reasons?

In before: Surviving with a bow to come home alive and with many wondrous animals and samples is more glorious than dying of hunger/being killed by wild animals halfway, right?

Also, how much does the fishing pole weigh? For statistics purposes.

One horse: Can carry 4 bigs
Total carrying capacity of horses: 20 bigs (200 mediums)

Weight of one human: 2 bigs
Total weight of humans: 10 bigs
Total weight of humans assuming they have maxed their carrying capacity: 16,5 bigs

Free carrying capacity left for horses: 3,5 bigs (35 mediums, 350 smalls)

That means that we have 3,5 bigs left for any equipment we can't carry on our bodies OR any samples we want to bring back. Assuming we capture any large animals or bring back any large samples, it might be a good idea to either take a cart or simply do not fill our weight to 100%.

Total weight: 10+2+4+1+20+30+2+20=90 smalls (260 left if put on horses) (560 left if put on humans)

This is the equipment I think we absolutely must have.
I have not put things such as cages or geology gear because I don't know what our scientists want.
I would also like some traps, but again, I don't know what the others want.
Also haven't put in stuff like climbing or cold weather gear, because I don't know what we'll need on that department, or how many.
Note that we can afford a cart (750 Ley but would give us +4 huge (4000 smalls) which is more than we could possibly need, but would slow us down significantly).
Some rations to be on the safe side would also be nice, in case we fail a forage roll.
And finally, I don't know what weapons the others want. I just want something cheap, like a machete and maybe a cheap sword/knife along with a cheap rifle.
Just my suggestion, trying to make things easier.

EDIT: Could also add a fishing pole, if we decide to follow the shore instead. Or just in case we come across a river or some ponds.

Finding an animal would be tracking. Killing it would be weapon skill. Bows. Hmm. Probably Rifles, weirdly.

Well, we already have a cart and six horses (one for each person + one for the cart), but since the cart has to be drawn by a pair of horses and someone will need to drive the cart, I assumed the carrying capacity of four horses and the cart, sans for five humans. All in all, it comes to 1,6 huge (=1 for cart + 0,4x4 for horses-0,2x5 for humans).

Is driving a cart Operate or Animal Handling, by the way?

All in all, enough weapons to arm everyone and over, but maybe a bit too few medical supplies - those cost far too much. No Linguistic tools or Taxidermy set, which is also a bit sad - but cold weather gear for everyone, just in case.

The third Journal probably goes to the scout - you know, "just in case"; each character gets a dagger and also a Leestone Repeater and one of the tool-weapons (save for Caroline). The two pistol-gentlemantly characters (who, coincidentally, are in the mountaineering detachment) get a revolver as well, and two hunting high-power rifles are there just in case.

Note that since there are no other nice things to trade with natives (save for Taxidermy set) I expected that we might end up trading guns to them, a universally useful and sought-after piece of equipment. Besides, you know, being Staves of Thunder Gods.

Lastly, with the free capacity being ~ 4 Large, I suggest dividing that among the four horse-riders for now.

That's the reason I want to hear everyone's ideas and comments on my suggested equipment list, after all. Anything else in particular?

And no, lever action repeaters are the peak of tech in terms of firing quickly. No ak47's for you
