I typically just name all my troops nth [Groupname] unit type. If there are a few of them its different, but as we have so many units now, anything more creative would take way too much time for me.

I'm not naming them individually beyond their city and number; basically I was trying to figure out a groupname.

I went with [ #][City][Liege-Knights].

Spoiler: 895 AD (click to show/hide)
Spoiler: Battle Log (click to show/hide)

In the long Dane-Irish war, there had been many turns of fate. The newly grouped forty-units strong Danish legions rode hard north to prevent the two branches of the Irish army from regrouping. Little were they to know that the Irish had chosen to group in the valley the Danes planned to ride through. Had the Danes tarried a day longer, they would have been undone by the superior might of a combined Irish force. As it was, they were able to make camp in the forest between Mott Fergusa and Daerne Michaels in time to ambush the 1st Irish Reclamation force. The plucky islanders were able to cut down 1/4th of the larger poorly equipped force but eventually they succumbed, stranding the 2nd Reclamation Force on mainland to face the pincer of the Danish to the north and the Mercians and Welsh to the south, all the while the full force of Wessex comes to bare on their homeland...

Hurm. Not quite turning out how I wanted it to go (eg. going first on either of those turns), losing those knights hurt, but it isn't quite the end of the road for me in my plans for world domination.

Incidentally, would any of you be interested in playing in Heretics of Hexland 3? It's a turn-based strategy game with zero randomisation.

I would be highly interested in playing, but I'm going to be going on a (very long) trip in a few weeks, and don't think I will have the time to keep up with a new game.

Trying to figure out if I want to try and hyper-specialize/combo off stuff or just make something interesting and varied.
