Gah, hunting down all these Danes is going to take forever, especially given what looks to be a very large and hostile force assembling Mercia.
And I also almost completely missed what's happening in the far south. This is a very interesting and unexpected development indeed. Looks like I'm not going to have to worry about the forces of Wessex and Wales coming north.

I love the huge scope for deception and asymmetric warfare in this game: in a straight up fight Ireland would win hands down, but they're not immune to being outmanoeuvred and they can't protect everywhere at the same time.

Well, this is just getting silly. Three quarters of the final invasion force is in Pictland...

If it weren't for Varee, that might have been 100%.

Not conveniently: moving a land unit onto a sea tile takes all of their remaining movement. You could manually move units from ship-to-ship in a line, but it's probably more efficient to just move the boats back and forth.

Spoiler: Battle Log (click to show/hide)

King Montane of the Picts was the last true heir and the last able bodied soldier left alive in his lands. He was a hostage to fortune, his lands burning by the Danes he was forced into vassalage with the Irish. As the Fort his people had won from the long dead Northumbrians was invaded, he rode with the wind at his back North to retake the great Highland cities. Would he get there in time? And would the Irish let him retake them?

Well well, lets see if I manage to catch the Danes in Fort Montaine, or if they manage to flee.
