I don't... think that's still the case? Most of the time if you're over limit for either a debit or credit card these days, the systems involved recognize that pretty much immediately and stop the transaction. There'd be a possible exception when connectivity is down and a business is accepting cards anyway (this is very, very rare, mind -- most businesses won't accept cards if their system is down, even if it's technically possible to take down the card number, etc., and process the transaction when the system comes back up), but I think that kind of lag isn't an issue in most cases, nowadays.

Things used to be less responsive, but "used to be" was years ago, I think. Parts don't get processed immediately, but the parts that would prevent that kind of error generally are. Certainly a major venue like ALDI wouldn't have need to worry about it in most regions they operate in.

Came across my first, as far as I can tell, genuine flat earther on Reddit today.

The guy's inadvertently hilarious. His arguments boil down to "God said it", "Water flows downhill, so it'd accumulate at the bottom" and "The government said the Earth's a globe and they lie" and he just keeps sharing images that look more like parodies.

Apparently arguments over the game Warthunder has led to people releasing classified documents in order to prove their favourite vehicle is better.

This has happened multiple times.
