"Well to be entirely honest I'm not sure either. We should probably look for someone to identify it a bit better." Sacha shrugged "But I really don't feel comfortable carrying around a sword like that without someone capable of using it. Would make us a nice target for thieves."

"A fair point. And mayhap a day or two might give us a better feel for the safety of the place."

"I suppose I will. Marina and I can guard the boat from above and below, and I have magic on my side. Besides..."

He looked up at the city, still slightly awestruck. "I think I still need more time to absorb all of this."

((So, just to confirm: Darwyn is staying behind; everybody else is going into the city for various reasons, yes?))

Everybody but Darwyn enters the city. You wander the winding streets, which seem to have no pre-planned path through the city. Eventually, you come across what appears to be the town square; there are tall buildings surrounding a paved area with a large weather-vane in the center. Lots and lots of townsfolk wander the area; the largest building is, predictably, an inn, with two stone lower floors and three wooden ones above, with a large sign reading "The Red Ship."

"The city is even worse on the inside... Whatever. I'll go see if I can't find someone to sell this gem to. It might buy us something useful."

See what prices I can get for the gem.

"Mayhap we could pick up word of other places to visit while we're in port?"

To the inn.

"I suppose I shall search for rumors as well." Ayleth says as she heads toward the inn.

"The city is even worse on the inside... Whatever. I'll go see if I can't find someone to sell this gem to. It might buy us something useful."

See what prices I can get for the gem.
You locate a chaotic-looking marketplace, full of stalls selling various exotic wares. You take the gem to a man with a sign reading "Jeweler's", who examines it for you and informs you it is worth 1,400 gold pieces.
"Mayhap we could pick up word of other places to visit while we're in port?"

To the inn.
"I suppose I shall search for rumors as well." Ayleth says as she heads toward the inn.
Inside of the inn, there are lots of gaunt-looking men quietly indulging in various types of alcohol. Slightly out of place, however, is a blonde, female elf, seated at a table in the corner, clad in sailors' clothes and with several weapons strapped to her.

"Hm, not a bad price for a dwarvern made gem. I need to consult some of my fellows, however. I will be back soon."

See if I can't find a better price.

"I guess I'll just go see what juicy rumors I can find."

Time to gather some information

Ask about the inn regarding islands which are rarely visited or the stuff of rumors.
