They're frankly just inconsistent on that. You've of course got the typical drama of an Inquisitor and a specific daemon battling it out over and over again, so it doesn't have to take millennia. There's also things like daemons showing off how little they care for their physical forms or dissolving without being banished.

I'd say being able to come back almost immediately seems like the norm. Perhaps soul grinders are from either exceptionally stupid daemons or ones who were fully banished and won't be back for some time.

...I've never really thought about how great a 40k mmo could be until like right now. Holy shit.

It was attempted, and cancelled. Then it was attempted again... and promptly changed into an arena shooter.

Said arena shooter isn't bad, though, but ye, 40k is kind of a very odd IP to work with. It seems GW is unwilling to allow anyone make anything major with it, but is willing to allow very minor things to just use 40k as a theme. Its essentialy why you see shit like the inquisitor game and that one warhammer 40k chess thing, but never an actual adaptation of the board game, an rpg or an mmo.

Battlefleet Gothic Armada is the only nice thing I've seen in regards to 40k videogames in the latest years, though people might disagree with me.

I honestly wonder how hard it would be for a real indie studio to squeeze a licence for a Chapter Master game out of them.

Considering how hardcore Geedubs are intent on fucking up any game they make for Muh Revenue Stream, does it matter?

Not sure, the current approach has been to sell the licence to whoever. You couldn't make it a free game though, and you'd get massive piles of butthurt from the community.

Although the latest warhammer fantasy adaptions have been a resounding success, so that's nice.
Not that many people really care about warhammer fantasy. See: Age of Sigmar

Maybe the deathwatch space hulk Vermintide: 40k game will be ok?

Re: Daemons being banished- I always thought that the harder they got smote, the longer it took to come back. Hence why grey knights with their relic weapons and their true names generally put things down for a long while, whilst the uneducated hitting daemons with a big stick don't take them out of comission for long at all.
That and however powerful the thingy in question is, and how much blood goes into bringing them back...
y'know. magic.

I'm kinda looking forward to Dawn of War 3. I've never played the games nor do I have any intention to play this one, but the trailer was good enough that I'm genuinely interested in seeing what the story's gonna be like.

But holy shit those rivers of falling dead was awesome.

I know the pics that are around the net is alpha footage, but they doesn't look right, too much shine on the grimdarkness, also it seems the game will be geared towards something more of a mobile game, clash of clans or boom beach or other assorted crap spring to mind.

It's a matter of waiting to see. I hope to be wrong.

Now, battlefleet gothic armada, that's a game you can see. Despite the annoyingly stupid un-lore bombs and some aspects that could have been done better (escorts squads anyone?) The game is really REALLY good, or so I've been told (mainly seeing it on youtube and reviews).

On the horizon there's another battlefleet game rising, Battlefleet Gothic Behemoth, based on the campaign Shield of Me. Despite being an IOs and Android game, it's supposedly being made as a fateful digital representation of the TT game, even having dices on the screen and all. Maybe GW is trying taking the TT directly to video games with a small risk, on a relatively small and simple game (afaik BFG is one of the simplest TT games of WH40K) and see how it goes. I guess if the game is a hit we could be seeing other specialist games and eventually the main one translated directly to video games.

It's a great trailer, in terms of visuals and theme. It got me excited for what the next game might be, for what it said about what the devs were thinking.

Too bad the game it was made for is totally divorced from it.

Do yourself a favor and play DoW 1. It's as close to a AAA RTS for 40k as you can get. DoW 2 and apparently 3 are games of a different stripe.

I always say it and I'll say it again, the perfect DoW game would be something with intense huge arse battles sort of like the first one, but bigger, with commando raids being played out like the second one.

Or if DoW 2 was made with a bit more of Chapter Master in mind, then it would have been a greater game. And I think that's something that BF Armada nailed, the customization of the fleet is good enough to be funny but restricted by lore as it should be. The missions map and campaign progress makes you believe you are actually in the middle of a fucking important war and you can take true meaningful choices that affect how the rest of the campaign plays trough, specially if you play with the "no backsies mode" iron man mode.

Sure there's room to improvement and I dearly hope they get around to make expansions with other campaigns and more gameplay features, but as TempAcc, it's one of the best 40k games released recently, not that most games are bad, but I still shiver when hearing or reading the Shitstorm of Shitgance words.

That's the thing- the whole community is crazy polarized over Dawn of War I/II.
It'll end up being Starcraft- an RTS with one hero level which all the fanboys scream for more of.

Honestly, I feel like the first game was the most faithful to the tabletop game. what with the whole squads system and upgrading them.

I also liked how resorces were tied to map control rather than have peon units or gatherers.  I hate microing peons.

You should try the Firestorm Over Kronus/Kauvara mod. They are even more so, and also "fixes" the scale among the units.

Or try Ultimate Apocalyse, which I maintain is the best mod for an RTS of all time
