Yay. I guess I'll start brainstorming typing my shit up. Also, as a preference thing, Youkai should be hiding in Japan or someplace within reasonable fleeing distance. Basically, since they're part of Japanese folklore, they should be native to Japan. So if they appear in other places then they fled there from Japan. As such you won't see them in Europe or the Middle East since they were fleeing from people to begin with. But they could appear in some of the more desolate parts of North/South America, or the Arctic/Antarctic, or the bottom of the ocean, or inside the crust of the earth, or some other place without too many people. Basically areas were they could safely hide back when Japan was still in the feudal ages.
