You swiftly look through this week’s copy of “The Imperial Horseman” in order to find out how your gladiator [and the other gladiators you had bet on. has done, due to the fact that sponsors are not allowed to see their gladiator until after the “Day of Rest”. Obviously there to prevent sponsors from pushing their gladiator any harder than necessary.

The imp known as Bucky charged his opponent fully intent on clawing the poor peasant to shreds. Unfortunately the opponent was able to twist around the attack and send his pitchfork towards the demon and even caused some painful damage (-16). Bucky staggered backwards due to the force of the blow but the opponent didn’t let up, throwing another successful pitchfork thrust at him(-13). It is at this point that Bucky tried to go on the offensive again and shoved his opponent to the ground (-21). Caught by surprise the peasant was unable to move at all as the Imp began slashing his face to shreds (-22). Arena officials were forced to intervene before the match became a death match.

For a brief moment it really appeared as though the peasant would triumph, but in the end it was Bucky the Imp who became the champion we all longed for.

Second in this week’s matches was another peasant vs imp combination. As might be expected the match went to The Purple Shellfishes Imp. However, to any who saw the match it is obvious that it was through sheer luck. Despite the crowd’s constant booing the Peasant, who asked to remain unnamed, managed to push the Imp to the very edges of his endurance. If this reporter had to make a guess the Imp would escape with life threatening injuries if this were a true fight to the death. No word yet on whether the peasant of The Brotherband is to make a full recovery.

In a strange turn of events a mere peasant was able to best a goblin with little more than a scratch. With a deft mind and spectacular movements the Goblin was bested by the man named Ugly Jerry. Some officials have claimed that poison was involved, however no traces have been found thus far. In this reporter’s opinion Pretty’s Finishing School is a school well worth paying attention to.

It is rare that these sorts of fights are more than slogfests. In this reporters opinions this remains true of this fight. Though the fighters gave it their all, they are but peasants. Stab, Stab, Stab, Stab, Stab, Stab is the tune we all know. There was no show boating, and certainly no theatrics. If you went to the arena to see a straight up fight you would do no better than to watch the battle between The Copper Colossal and The Green Gardens. Unfortunately, the fight suffered due to it coming directly after the spectacular match involving Ms. Pretty Obvious’ gladiator. Still, it served its purpose and for that this reporter can give no fault.

Is there any simpler pleasure than watching two goblins battle eachother? The answer is yes… But the fact remains that this match was very generic in its aims. After all of the hyping I had heard prior to the match it was a bit of a letdown. Do not, however, mistake this for a negative view. The goblin known as Jig certainly made some… creative gestures that pleased the crowd. The penis-spear joke he shouted out was a little uncouth but the stadium roared in laughter. Jig is sure to be a crowd favorite if he can keep up this level of enthusiasm for his job.

It was a close match. It is rare, but this reporter is willing to bet that John has some potential in the leagues. He moved faster and was obviously far smarter than his opponent. His unwillingness to commit to a move that wouldn’t work is probably what saved him from losing even worse than he did. It’s only a shame that his opponent’s reckless attacks managed to land as often as they did. It was a random punch that placed John into the “Resurrect Me” pile of gladiators this week, but this reporter is hoping he will make a full recovery.

Finally, thought I, some bloodshed. It’s more of a shame that the match was over as quickly as it was. Wolves may not seem quite so fantastic as a Manticore [a match I will remember fondly unto my dying day] but they can be quite deadly in a pack, which is just what The Silver Corpses sent out today. It’s a shame The Plague Hammer was only able to send two Smallmouth Orcs. I’m reasonably certain that just one more orc would have turned the tides of the match.

Spoiler: The Saphire Republic vs The Iron Shellfish (click to show/hide)

Ugh… A healer fight. While useful, they certainly can drag the fights to a halt. I personally have witnessed fights last hours due to healers being on the field. Luckily today’s healer was an acolyte on The Saphire Republic’s side… But then there was the ghost. Even worst, their penchant for paralyzing front row fighters is well known but… Today something unexpected happened, the Acolyte healed the Fighter exactly one time the entire match. From start to finish the acolyte was unable to act due to the ghosts intervention.

Meanwhile the Possessed man was wailing away gleefully at his opponent. I’m not sure how possessed men and women are able to take so much more punishment than someone in full armor but they certainly are. When the Possessed was nearly dead and gone the Ghost switched her target to the Fighter. One healing from the acolyte and then a wild haymaker sent the Fighter to the ground. From there it was a forgone conclusion. An exciting match if I’ve ever seen one. Certainly the most interesting that involved both a ghost AND an acolyte in it.
