Week 1 Start

In today’s top stories Emperor Gaston has announced his intention to visit the Southerian province in an attempt to sooth the tensions with some of the Greenskins in the area. Experts assume this to be a good move on his part.

In other news roughly three hundred new gladiator schools have been added to the Arena Roster. The increase in sign-ups is unlike anything ever seen before. Experts do not know why this might be though the clergy say it is the will of the gods.

Jig seems to be growing more unruly by the day. The homeless people are even talking about not helping you anymore due to some… incidents with the female ones… and the male ones… and the elemental… and you’re pretty sure the scarecrow… maybe even the floor once.

You pull him aside after a while and speak with him. You realize what he wants pretty easily. Money. “I’ll pay you 125% of what I usually pay you. Just behave yourself!”

With a broken toothed grin he replies “Fo’ tha’ muck? A’I’t’ boss, I do it.”

You think he means that he’ll follow orders so long as you’re paying enough. At least you hope so. As you watch him battle against a homeless man by the name of “AGH” or something like that an attendant walks up to you.

“You have been challenged sir…”

“Oh? By who?”

“The Red League. A puny school, much like ours. They wish to pit their goblin against yours.”

“Hm… Maybe… What leagues are available?”

“For us sire? None. Such lowly gladiator schools as ours are not permitted to partake i-“

“Why the hell not!?”

“Do you know how many schools wash out after their first couple of fights? Over seventy percent. You must have a certain amount of acclaim before a league will allow you to partake.”

You fold your arms and sigh angrily. Looks like leagues are out of the question for now… But a goblin on goblin fight? That might just help you gain the fame you need. Not much but… some.

Bucky simply sits meditating in the center of the room as you go over a bit of expenses. This is a little less expensive than you thought it might be. Then again Imps fight with their hands and nude [Is it nude? You see no genitals… You decide not to dwell on that] so it does make some sense that it wouldn’t require too much to keep him in line.

“Hey! Biggus Dickus!” Shouts someone at the door. You grumpily get up to answer the door and find a woman standing there.

“Who are you?”

“I’m an Arena runner. I’ve come here to tell you that you’ve been challenged.”

“Challenged? Well that’s fine but I was gonna join a league with Bu-“

“No you weren’t.” The woman deadpans.

“Why not?”

“You’re not famous enough. You need to build up some fame before you can join a league. Helps the league make money and draw patrons.”

That made sense, unfortunately. “Okay so… Who’s the challenger?”

“The Blue Sky Line. They have a peasant by the name of ‘Big Bravo’ who asked for Bucky by name.”

“Not me?”

“Intelligent imps are a rare thing I’m afraid…”

“I’ll consider it. Any other challenges?”

“I’m afraid not…”

“Oh… Okay….” Looks like you’d either have to accept the challenge or just sit around for a week… Hm…

Leon seems to be just as annoying as last time. He told you a joke about two babies and a wolf that didn’t end very well for the wolf. It was sooooooo dry that you needed a drink of water afterwards.

Still, you’re making pretty decent money for your school with the money you saved on not buying a more expensive gladiator.

“Hey, boss, letter for you.” Leon said tossing the letter onto your desk with a casual flick of the wrist. If only he were so good at not being boring…

“Alright, fine… Just go train.”

“Maybe later.”

“Ingrate…” You mutter as you begin to read. There was a lot of inflated wording but the basic idea was that ‘The Green Gardens’ wanted to pit their peasant against yours. You remember catching part of his match last week. You think you remember him being slightly hurt. Maybe it’d be an easy match? Or not… You’ve seen a team of peasants take down an ogre once. Once…

But either Leon won and earned you some fame OR Leon got stabbed a bunch and might even start listening… Either way you win!

Ugly Jerry is as ugly as you are Pretty… and your fabled relation was handsome and strange. Still that doesn’t change the fact that he seems eager to enter the arena… Almost too eager. In fact:

“Hey Ms. Obvious, I found a challenger for us!”

“What do you mean? Behind my back?”

“Of course not. I simply found one that should be easy to handle. It’s a Goblin by the name of Gobbolynn. She works for The Orange Sun school… They agreed when I said you might be up for a fight. All you have to do is accept and I’ll be bathing in gobo blood sooner than later.”

“Hm… Maybe… I can’t enter a league yet. Well I’ll go think about it. For now I’m off. Just… stay here and train.”

“Can do boss.”

Walking the streets of the city a thought occurred to you. Ugly Jerry needed a trainer and you wanted to look into hiring out an alchemist.

The trainer was easy to find, they said they’d be willing to train Ugly Jerry for a low low fee due to his station. There was literally no haggling involved.

The alchemist was a little harder to find. Well, not so much. There were plenty of alchemists around. Just none that were willing to help you. You did, however, find one who was at least willing to hear you out.

“What do you want?” Asked the gruff voice of the tenderfoot. You had no idea why they liked to be called that. Most humans called them Hobbits but… Saying that aloud might not be the best idea.

Having been a werewolf in the arena you knew that they were allowed. What you didn’t know was that only higher ranked schools were able to afford them. Their cost was astronomical. You could purchase an entire army of Johns for the price it would cost to hire one werewolf. Probably had something to do with their weapon immunity… Oh well, it would appear that you’d have to wait until you had better cash flow and more fame before hiring another of your kind.

John, for his part, seemed rather happy to be working with you. His life was nothing special as was fitting of a peasant. However he did learn some of the things you showed him very quickly. He always addressed you as “Lady Wolfe” as was fitting as it was your gladiator name back in the day… As well as your actual name but he didn’t seem to understand that.

“Special delivery!” Came a voice before a small package was thrown through your window. Luckily the window in question had no glass.

“Why do they do that?” You asked yourself as you opened the package. It was a bundle of letters. Most of them fan-mail. One a challenge.

“What is that Lady Wolfe?”

“A letter from the Onyx Gargoyle School… Oh hahahaha, they think I’ll send you against a gargoyle. What a wonderful joke… Oh… Wait, never mind. They’re wanting you to fight their peasant.”

“Will I, milady?”

“I don’t know yet… I’ll have to think about it.

Wernher seems to be exhausted by the time the trainer finished with him.

“He’s a good lad but a bit weak. Peasants aren’t really cut out for this lifestyle…” The Trainer says to you privately afterwards while Wernher rests in the next room.

“Maybe not, but he’s trying. I see potential.”

“Aye, so do I. So did you think about that challenge you got?”

“From The Purple Shellfish? Maybe. I don’t know. An Imp seems a bit hard to handle for Wernher.”

“Even if he loses it’ll bring fame to the school… And he might win.”

“You think so?”

“Maybe. Depends on which Imp they use.”

“They have multiple?”

“No. It’s just that when they lose a match they swap Imps. Owner has a thing for them she does. Anyways, I hear her last one lost so she had him killed and hired a new one. Might be sickly… Might be strong… It all depends. Hell, might be injured for all I know.”

“Hm… I was hoping to join a league but they said the Brotherband wasn’t famous enough… I’ll have to think on this.”

“Alright, I’ll be back next time you need me.”

“Very well. Farewell.”

Alright, so now we’re in preparation which has two stages. You can challenge another player or a different school [by requesting the specific enemy you want to fight. Like “Imp” or “Goblin” or “Goblin Archer” or so on and so forth, You can still pay money to train your gladiator if you’d like [which is usually ONLY done during preparation]. Basically just run an action by me and I’ll handle the rest.

The Second Phase will start when everyone has accepted a fight or stated they don’t want one this week.
