Theoretically, if Obama is particularly gung-ho about bombing things in the name of democracy, he can order airstrikes against Russian targets. Unfortunately for the USAF, crews of Russian AA systems won't be drinking vodka and not paying attention to blips on the radar.

I very much doubt that. The US's threats have been too vague and pacifistic for bombing Russian targets.

Plus Obama's always been something of a pragmatist. Nets him a lot of criticism from within his party.

No this is Ukraine's thing I think. And we'll see whether the central government will continue to lose ground, the situation will stabilize, or Kiev will fight back.
