On another note; if a built-in weapon's hit or damage rating is 1, then how does that affect it in melee?

The modifiers are intended for the result, not the stats, because somewhere around 8 you'd be making attack rolls reaching into he fifties, but that's an important clarification. So it would be [1d6=result*1/2] in the case of the leg missiles. I'll make sure to change that. Thanks for the question boss.

Can we do all three together?
If we're engaged in melee without a melee weapon ready, can we switch to it and attack in the same turn?

Switching equip, using any equip = action
Moving, entering melee = free
But, melee initiation must always be at the end of your turn. You can attack before, but not after initiating melee. At least not in the same turn.

Also relevant: you can't swap weapons during a melee due to close-range and grappling with one another.

Hmmm, so you can basically lock down a ranged player just by forcing a melee; they can't switch weapons to something that works in a melee, while you already did so.  If you then defer your turn to the end of the initiative (if you can do that), you can then use them as a shield for that 50% "firing into melee" penalty against their allies' attacks, then make your own attack to chop them to pieces.  Even if you can't defer your turn, you've still got them as a shield against anyone who moves before of you.  Good to know. 

Well, not so good to us, because we're going to be julienned, but good to know in general. :P

To answer the question you had on The Republic:

Have you thought of adding improvised weapons and being able to rip arms off of your opponents? That seems like a fair way to make things more lethal.
Well you're allowed to throw your weapons at opponents, which loses it instantly and permanently and allows a weapon swap as a free action. And von Strud I think got his leg shot off, and the same happened to someone else's arm.

If you were unarmed and in a melee you could totally tear things off of your enemy. But by and large beam sabers and giant superheated axes are far more efficient for things like that.

EDIT: I should add unarmed mechanics for stealing weapons. If your gun or sword gets destroyed or lost in a melee fight and you've run out of things to stab with you should be able to grab your opponent's stuff.

I'm not sure what you mean.

EDIT: If you're unarmed and you tear an arm off you can use it as a weapon. You could even tear your own arm off 08th MS Team style. It won't be any better than using a non-melee weapon though.

Or chopping off your opponents limbs? I'm not sure.
