If donkey ate the apple core, and donkey is dead, it too will be in the corpse stockpile.

Given the state of this place, it's probably a bit "crowded" in there, so just put the elf corpse on top of the donkey corpse, and let nature take its course.

Donkey is ethically butcherable to dwarves, I don't think they'd waste it that way.
Except that they don't butcher animals that die in combat, only ones specifically brought in by hunters or slaughtered. Some sort of purity custom, maybe? (Ok, it's a bug, but I like to think it's akin to kosher butchering or the like)
That is not true. They butcher animals killed by the military, its the only way I ever "hunt". The solution is making a corpse/refuse stockpile next to the butcher. It only works, if the target corpse is close by.
That works for wild animals, but I've never seen dwarves butcher enemy mounts or merchant pack animals before. I always figured it was some sort of entity-relationship based decision of some sort.

Do what no other dwarf knows how to do. Once Darkerdaffodil corpse is outside and in the corpse pile, put the seeds from the elven apple he traded you underneath it.

not sure if alt text works on this forum

Maybe you can turn to the gods for help?

That's what the nun said people do.  Maybe...maybe Urist CCCVI can help?  He's the god of reincarnation, maybe he can help Darkerdaffodil be reincarnated as a...as a tree or a flower, or whatever.

oh well

Hey, maybe even Cowsea can help!  It wouldn't hurt to ask.

maybe ill put spoilers in here

And besides, it'd...it'd be nice to have someone to talk to right now.

For the first time since you left, you kinda miss your dad.

MISTY WAS ADOPTED

"Dear Cowsea and Urist Three Hundred and Six.  Hi.  It's me Misty again.  I'm sorry for praying again so soon, but I really need some help.

I know I only started worshiping you guys today, but my friend got killed and I also only met him today.  I'm feeling really lost, and confused, and really really scared, and if you guys can help me I would really appreciate it!  You see, Darkerdaffodil was telling me about how elves worship trees and how everything is connected, and how souls are all just sort of sloshing around in the afterlife.  I really didn't understand it very much, but I'm pretty sure that when he gets reincarnated, he would want to be a tree.

I know that's a lot to ask, but if you guys could help him out, that would be very nice.  And if you've still got some time left over, I would also like some help.  Shielddawn is kind of a scary place, and I'm worried that I might not fit in very well, or get hurt, or something.  I know the Overseer Lady told me that I'm a hauler now, but I really don't want to be a hauler!  I want to be a cheesemaker!  So if you guys can maybe help me out, just a little, I'll try not to ask you for anything else."

oh wait you guys already know that

"Okay, that's all I had to say.  Thanks for listening, I hope.  Amen on three.

One, two three, Amen."

You wait a minute for a response, or a beam of light, or a sign, or...or anything really.

im sure ill find a use for these

im actually a little embarrassed how heavy handed this is

Why won't they answer you?

Ponder over the thought if the gods, any gods truly exist. Or souls and the afterlife even.
Think about the consequences of those possibilities. Ask them for a sign, no matter how small it is. One small that you might notice some time during this day.
Then let it go and keep hauling. You said your prayers and that's what matters.. right?

Ask for a pony from the gods. Then go to the chapel/whatever and request aid in your piety from the nuns/monks who reside there.

Have existential crisis over the potential existence of gods and or the afterlife. Specifically, in dwarven beliefs, after witnessing elven magic first hand, and seeing real results there, in stark contrast to the lack of answering that the gods are showing you.

New friend: appear

+1 And have them be a former milker, now a hauler like we are. Probably hauling a corpse of some kind.
