And Alma had been bound before she knew full well you were not a summoned the moment you came to me to learn how to bind and she still accepted it where she could have refused. She was 3 feet away when you asked for training and I told you I would not train you to be a summoner.

The only one not considering the actions was you Kyle and I knew I could simply teach you to channel mana to free her again. As did she. I would not have done it if I couldn't undo it and you needed to understand how it feels to carry that responsibility and I needed to know what you would do once you understood your mistake.

Do you understand it now? Are you willing to take on that responsibility knowing I will hold you to the same standards of treatment I do myself and with what I told you when I made you take an oath to me before I taught you to bind? "

"Why would you teach one a skill and not provide warning to it's dangers and then be surprised when they use that supposedly safe skill without thinking that it would cause harm?"

"Because I do not know you and she had already agreed to be bound. In the absence of 6 months to observe and judge you I could either refuse and cause both of you to resent me and eventually go behind my back possibly with dangerous results.

Or push you here and now and see how you react when I'm here to undo the binding if you react negatively. Not pleasant for you or overly honorable of me but before I could trust you with these skills it was something that needed to be done. The same test I passed before I began my training."

"...how could they go behind your back when you can hear everything ssshe sssays? A bretrayal is imposssible. Only you have to knowledge to free them. They cannot act againssst you."

"... THAT'S STUPID! That's like giving a boy a gun and telling him how to use it and not explaining what it would do to what got hit by the bullet. I mean, I suppose it is faster and more convenient but still."

"Not the summons. Kyle. He could have found another summoner who would take advantage of him upon my refusal or who would take Alma and force her obediance through torture.

I didn't say it was good. But given the circumstances it was the only available option to me and unlike in your example I know I can undo it. There was no risk to what I did to you or her other then your anger and one day when somebody asks you for the training you asked me for you'll understand the weight of that simple question.

Now your training will at minimum require several weeks before you can even converse with her and thats if your an unusually quick learner. I can teach you the spell I used to talk to all of you in hours that would allow you to converse with her and my summons in a more limited fashion so you can confrim what I'm telling you. It's limited because you could only converse with them when using the spell."

With that, she turned on her heel and left the summoner behind.

"Your intentionsss remain to be ssseen, sssummoner. It isss a ssstrange way to teach but half then blame the ssstudent, calling it jussstification to not finisssh the lessson."

"Indeed. And every lapse in judgement, every mistake, every act you make of questionable morality makes me doubt your trustworthiness even more...not that you've done much to deserve it."

"I expected him to consider the consequences of his actions. If you teach somebody how to wield lightning because you believe him to be responsible enough to wield it and then he kills with it does that make it your fault?"

"A question that must be asked before that is answered is...why did you believe he would be responsible? What did Kyle do that made you think he would be able to handle these powers responsibly? No offense, Kyle, but I'm not convinced I'd trust him to handle keeping a bar."

Torban sighs and looks around.

"Have I given any of you reason to doubt my sincerity?"

"I have no particular reason to believe or disbelieve your statements. I have several reasons to disagree with your conclusions of innocence, however..."

"The only one not considering the actions was you Kyle..."

"It certainly does not seem you considered this well, either..."

"Because I do not know you..."

"Then why did you trust him?"

"What a vile magic you ussse, sssummoner. I'll have no part of it."

With that, she turned on her heel and left the summoner behind.

"I cannot argue with his logic. Binding magic seems to me a magic better left erased from existence."

Kyle sighs.
"Tomorrow. I'm rather tired."

[Alexandria]

"Alma after being almost killed at his hand and free to make her own choices willingly choose binding by him over her free life. I decided to trust that she had seen something in him that we had not and it seems she was correct after the way he reacted when he realized his error.

The magic can not be unlearned and is in the world now. I and one day Kyle can at least mitigate some of the damage it can do. It's not a perfect solution but it's the best your going to find in this world and I've made it my lives work.
I said in the beginning I had no interest in this village, I came because in doing so I can undo some of the injustices do to summons who's masters are less honorable then I am.

I don't expect you to like it here and now but I ask you to judge me by my actions not by your preconceptions.

By all means then sleep."

"I am forming me preconceptions from your actions, Torban."
Carl leaves.

As people began to filter away from Torban's little talk on binding and summoning, Cymea approached Zita, who seemed to have finished for the moment with the orb if she was here.  "The orb.  Have you found what you need to know?"

Rubra soak in what she has learn.
"Could you teach me the basics of magic, Torban? As a summoner, you would know how to use mana, right?"

Vulpa listens in silence, before walking away, shaking her head.

'You chose a bad art, Torban. Perhaps for good reasons, but nonetheless, it is a bad way to do things. But if that's how you wish to work, and what you say is true, then I will not stop you.'

She resumes walking, before pausing once more, without looking back.

'And if you do sense any.... less scrupulous summoners - do tell. A bullet to the brain should work just as effectively against them as anything else.'
Then she becomes less serious, and a touch of her usual humour enters her voice.
'Or we could just let you teach them how to use a gun.'

Vulpa sets up camp, the wolf golem sitting guard outside her tent. She examines the gems she found in the sack, trying to remember their enchanting uses.

"I can teach you how to use mana to control the elements yes, there is no single skill in how to use mana it comes in many different forms of which I know but 3."

Torban says looking round at Rubra.
