You gaze Gimpy and tell him that he got in a fight with Geldy. After uncuffing them, you cheerfully and carefully hit both several times with the butt of the gun, and then hand it to Gimpy after gazing him again. Gimpy then shoots Geldy in the foot, missing a few times, and with that, you tell Gimpy to forget everything but the fight, and admit to attempting to kidnap you. You gather your belongings and flee. Someone's bound to call the cops and it's best to be gone before they start asking questions.

Maybe this way, you can at least male it hard on your ex-boss.

Speaking of which... boss's car.

After loading your vehicle, you go take a stroll to the parking garage, gloves on. Aside from money, which you promptly steal, there's nothing but a gym bag, which you also liberate. There's nothing in the trunk, either. After a moment's consideration, you punch holes in three of his tires and key the car, then leave, grabbing the shotgun as you go.

You drive for a while, and after having quite illegally looked up a hotel for the day while driving like a demon, pull to a stop at a place that boasts of its economy in the name. After checking in and storing most of your bags, you notice a couple standing by a car, smoking. The man regards you with polite disdain, while the woman looks at you without looking at you. You look back and sense something about them, something sort of tingly, and are aware they See you for what you are.

"Good morning," he says.

They smile, and you retreat to your room. You check the window to see them still out there, and the man waves.

Well, they have a clue about what I am, which is more than I can say. On the other hand, it's just about morning.

You draw the curtains securely shut.

Now what?

Right, we are carrying about 4 guns and 2 batons, which is more then most soldiers. Find a floorboard or use the bed, then stash them there. The taser we could explain as self-defense. Lock the door if possible, or just put a Do Not Disturb sign on it. Get something that makes sound when you step on it in front of the doors and windows leading outside: broken glass, doritos, bubblewrap, anything. Then, go to sleep.

[Not that I'm meaning to push or anything, but I'm a late sleeper and I've got a good bit of creativity pent up.

(Not really, but it's your way of conserving power. Daywalking costs anywhere from 1 to 3 liters per hour, and you lack power during the day.

When you die for the day, your consumption drops to a pint every two hours.

Yes, there are ways to burn less. Master level power, obviously.)

You look around for a place to stash your bag of guns, only one of which you legally own. Deciding on the closet (for now), you stick it in and close the door, then set about securing the room: deadbolt, that little chain thing, TV cabinet in front of the door, lights in front of the window, and otherwise deny access. You then feed and water Gleeson, go to bed, and sort of stare at the ceiling for a while, trying to sleep. Sometime around 6:33 AM, you feel lethargic, and your heart slows down as your eyes close.

***

You open your eyes and rub them, spending a few minutes in bed as you feel the last rays of the sun slip past the horizon. After taking inventory of yourself, you rise up and change clothes. Unlike yesterday, you're not exactly hungry, but there's a definite sense of something missing. Less alive than before. Your heart isn't beating as fast and sort of skips.

Not good.

You stretch as usual for the morning, and consider your options. You're good until 11 AM tomorrow, which... isn't exactly convenient for you as a check-out time. On the other hand, no thugs. You head outside again, only to see the black car of the couple pulling up. They exit the car, holding little plastic containers with sushi. After giving you a nod, the two return to their room, then head back outside for another smoke, watching you carefully.

Now what?

Screw the cat, it won't work, but talk to the couple if you find them. Tell them you have an unusual hunger, winking at them

You note to make Gleeson a vampire kitty. No reason why it wouldn't work, right? You greet the couple. Both give friendly responses. After the woman closes her eyes for a moment (you feel something brush against you) she nods at the man, and he speaks.

"We don't often see vampires on vacation. I understand you're a bit new to the game."

You tilt your head sideways.

"I'm an empath and she's a psychic, among other things. And we See you. It looks like the tide's coming out - you don't have a master, do you? Anyway. I'm Will. This is Ruth. Pleasure to meetcha."

His hazel eyes look directly at yours without fear or hesitation. Although he doesn't extend a hand to shake, his body language isn't at all hostile. Well, aside from his left hand playing with the necklace he wears - clearly, you're not much of a threat to him, but he's not taking chances. The woman is still looking at a point between your eyebrows, slightly sideways, and has one hand on her necklace, the other holding what looks like a cigarette but is actually a pipe.

Act shocked for a second, then realize how silly that is because you're a vampire. "You know what I'm thinking, then? I suppose psychics isn't too out there. Any werewolves around? Judging by the fantasy roleplaying games I played in college, it seems fashionable to my kind to dislike theirs."
Put our hand close to the pocket with the revolver. They probably know we're doing that, but it'd work as a threat that there shouldn't be any funny stuff. Also, do long division and sing nursery rhymes in our head to throw them off the scent of our other thoughts.

You're faintly surprised, but really not. After all, vampire, right?

"They exist, but we don't really know any," Will replies. "At least around here. My cousin in Portland's a theriomorph, but not a lycanthrope."

Noting the confused look, Ruth adds in:

"A human who shifts forms with magic of their free will as opposed to involuntarily during lunar cycles. And no, not really - I can hear thoughts but I don't like to listen. Consent, courtesy. All that."

They exchange glances, as though she usually has to explain what he says. A half-smile, and attention back to you,

Ohhh kaaay.

You still keep reciting lines and numbers in your head anyway, just to be safe, and rest your hand in your pocket. The gesture is noted, and commented on by a slight chuckle.

"Just so we're both on the same page, Ms. Vampire...  I can't say as either of us trust you, but as long as you don't try to hurt us, we won't have to hurt you. Peace."

He takes his hand off his necklace, and displays both up and out, the handrolled in his right fingers smoking gently. Ruth doesn't let go of her necklace, though.

"That seems fair. It's Jack, by the way. Let's just leave the names at that until we're better acquainted. Theriomorph, huh? Does he turn into an animal statue every full moon or what?"
Crack a joke to ease off the tension.
