Yeah, we're not doing so great, lol.

On an unrelated note, I like that PW added penalties for temp-deaths. Don't recall seeing anything like it before.

I don't think there's anymore incoming, pw didn't mention any. We now have a busted shuttle to worry about.

It's not first time. People have lost stat points before for being temp deaded.

@Miyamoto needing SM defence

Really, the only danger to Miyamoto is friendly amp fire, and I don't think that's very likely to hit him where he's vulnerable.

We already know UWM amp specialists won't kill him, because he fought one once and was only attacked by external effects.  Plus, unlike every other person on that mission, there was an actual good reason for that--If you amp-snipe Miya's soft fleshy insides, then he gets way more powerful and destructive.  It's only useful as a suicidal last resort, like priming a nuke just before you get shot.

@Temp deaths giving stat maluses

That's how the game originally worked.  Our very first death, Jim, lost some points.  As did other people for several missions after that.  Eventually, PW just stopped caring and decided not to do it (or forgot, I guess), and everybody got revivified at no penalty.  I guess he's going back to the old ways now, probably because the bookkeeping isn't an issue anymore.

I'm happy that my two deaths were in the period where it carried no penalty.  I'm not really at risk of temp dying anymore.

((If only we had someone who was skilled in medical matters))
((If only we had one that wasn't dead. Seriously, what's up with the medics being the first to die on this mission?))
And now you know why (and how) I came to the painful realisation "there's not gonna be a medic around when you really need them, so you better be a medic yourself" :P

WHY WON'T THIS MISSION END AAAAAAAAAAH.
Planet loves you and doesn't want its new friends to leave so soon. :)

That's a last ditch option I'm considering, but I'll be checking all our other options first. We can ditch the assaultsuit once it's out of fuel though, that'll be something, and if there are other shuttles Miya could try moving to one of them.
Isn't the assaultsuit built like a robobody, in that the pilot is reduced to a braincase and integrated into the unit? I recall syvarris being quite vocal about the inferiority of fleshy bodies and the superiority of robobodies.

Yeah, we're not doing so great, lol.

This is the first time anyone has lost stat points for being injured but surviving, though. Ulrich was the only tempdeath, the other ones made it out alive.

Well, new players come and go. There are plenty of characters who show up for a mission or two and then disappear without dying.

No, the assaultsuit is like the battlesuit, except the pilot controls the vehicle via an MMI, rather than keyboards and whatnot.  There isn't any feature that chops the user's head off either, despite the fact that robots really are completely superior and I'd be doing the pilot a favor.  So Iveso is whole, and can exit the AS without any issue.  With his useless fleshsack and everything.

Actually, no; instead, assaultsuit is using the new MMI tech to allow the same level of control over the assaultsuit for the meatlings as the braincasers enjoy. The one that really works off the operator being a single braincase is the Heavy Robot Body.

And yeah, you are right, this is disturbing that people lost stats without even tempdeaths (or maybe they briefly died during the ascent to orbit?). We should ask out Piecewise on this. Because while I can get behind the idea of dropping physical stats for body damage, it is a troublesome dynamic in regards to "meatling vs braincaser" equilibrium; it clearly gives superiority to robot people (unless they would also lose stats for "equipment damage" and now that simply does not make any sense). Or maybe now being reduced to brain-in-jar results in certain inevitable considerable stat loss (even if done in perfect conditions aboard the Sword)? That would be troublesome to robot characters if gets retconned, and simply not fair if it doesn't.
Long story short, this is really troubling.

Edit: Oh, syv came in. Here, take a look at what we might be heading into, and rejoice/despair!
(you know, based on whether forced robotization results in stat decrease even in perfect conditions)

Also, I like how you completely disregard the mental trouble of living in a synthetic shell, and all the dark existential questions it brings to mind. :P

Not to mention that you point out the problem with HRBs as opposed to AS yourself, Syv - you can't leave an HRB behind. And you can get crippled when you're in one, and you'll be stuck without outside help.

Though this does make me want to create an "upgrade", of a sort. A "sidewaysgrade", if you will. Restructure the endoskeleton and braincase mounts in a robobody/synthbody/HRB so as to integrate a "rapid release" system that ejects the braincase in the event of catastrophic damage, potentially saving the brain from destruction. It'd lose you some points in Endurance, so you'd be more likely to get injured, but less likely to immediately die like Ivan Vetrov did.

The battlesuit has the escape pod feature. You could do something similar for the brew ones. Add that upgrade that turns braincases into spider walkers and you're set.

The spider Walker upgrade is fun because it essentially gives you a second chance to move around and be useful. Wonder if one could make it use rockets. Rocket propelled brains go!

Wonder if it has the stick-to-everything legs of scout eyes.

Do they come with a still built in? If so, I want one.

@Nik

Mental trouble of living in a synthetic shell?  Bah.  It's only for a few weeks, perception wise, and after those few weeks are up you'll either be executed by Steve, or we'll have a sufficiently strong industrial base to just grow a new body for you.  Better to have a synthoid body now, so that you're more likely to survive through those weeks.

@Sean

That's an issue with the HRB, though, and not the concept of being a brain in a jar.  A robotic body person can still buy an AS for the same price as an HRB, and be able to hop out and keep fighting if their AS is crippled.  The HRB basically trades that single advantage for improved mobility, and it's primarily supposed to be a sod vehicle anyway.

I don't see why you think that upgrade doesn't already exist.  As Paris mentioned, there's already the spider walker braincase upgrade, so I don't see why you couldn't just buy that for the HRB.
