Serious: Please please pleassse let PW do this. Us Heph people never get to participate in missions without forfeiting our post, so this would be really nice. It's also a good idea in-character, because this way Jim doesn't just get an ignoble ending where he fades away. Jim is a hero, basically an icon for ARM, so something like that just wouldn't be a good enough end. If Jim dies, it'll have to be something like overloading his amps to destroy a ghost ship about to glass a civilian world. Something amazing and heroic.
No. No he's not. Jim is in no way, shape or form, a hero. Consider his track record:
Mission 1: Died in three turns or so.
Mission 2: Killed Erik, fucked around with Milno in the dirt circles.
Mission 3: Got infected, nearly killed the entire team once by destroying the elevator while they were in it and later on they almost died by orbital bombardment due to the lack of elevator, seriously wounded Mesk.
Mission 5: 'Led' a team and killed a bunch of civilians. Failed to apprehend the target.
Mission 8: Stole a bunch of shit (which, I wonder where all that went. It never got wrote down I guess) and intimidated scared, helpless civvies.
Mission 9: Almost got everyone on the team killed by making the ghost ship aware of them.
Mission 11: Killed the amp specialist through plot shenanigans involving people misinterpreting his character (he honestly didn't care about Grate that much; it was more of a 'sucks a kid is in this kind of place I guess' type of reaction).
Mission 12: Did nothing of note.
If anything, Jim is a mass murderer, and his teammates are lucky that he sometimes kills someone they need him to. Also, this isn't Dragonball Z. Jim can die just like everyone else. There's nothing special about him. I know you're trying to butter me up into agreeing with this by praising the character, but that's really not going to work.
((One problem I could see: would there need to be consensus when there's no obvious way forward? Would people need to vote (thereby maybe slowing things down)? Do they also do his rp'ing, can they take up his commander role (aka bossing others around)? Should they try to stay as much in character as possible?))
((Only one problem? ;p
I imagine disagreements would either be settled by inaction (Sudden onset stasis catatonia!) or executive decision (PW or Pyro.) It could also be settled by rolling for which one of the competing actions is used, or having a rotating executive choice (I use my Ex choice to force Jim to risk overtaxing himself, next time there's a disagreement, Sean can choose.). Lots of options, and PW did say it's basically an experiment.
I'd think roleplaying would be allowed, although maybe with discussion before anything is actually posted. I, personally, would enjoy the chance- I haven't had much chance to RP Saint since his Heph posting.
Haha, nope. I don't know you at all Syvarris, Sean would likely turn him into a brony, and both Sean and Pyro would suffer from the fact they have no idea how to play 'stupid'. Jim would go from introspective and team focused to being all about science. Simply put, I said it before and I'll say it again: I don't ever trust anyone else with the characterization of my characters. Call me pretentious or selfish if you want, but even if you played him similarly to how I do, it still wouldn't be the same character. You might as well just make yourselves a super strong Sod to send along and call him Jim.
I guess the commander role would be your choice, settled OOC. If you forbid it, Jim continues not really wanting to be a commander, and is just a strong grunt. If you allow it, then whatever stressful event he goes through in this mission makes him think he needs to take a stronger role to help his team.
I'd think staying in character is obvious, but some change would obviously have to happen. There should be some IC justification for why Jim suddenly gives a carp again. Maybe Lyra gets impaled on this mission? That would be perfect. Miyamoto could also give him a stern talking to, asking why he just ignored his commander role, and a grunt had to pick up the slack.))
In the end, I'm not swayed. I like and respect PW, but I'm kinda done and I want out. It's been 2 3/4 years. I don't want anyone else playing a character they enjoy (presumably Lenglon likes playing Lyra) to get penalized, and even suggesting that turns me further off from the idea. That being said, if Miyamoto wants to give Jim a talking to, he'd better be prepared to fight, because at this point I don't care who kills Jim.
