16th Limestone
With their diplomat gone, and none of them having helped us against the Orcs, there was really no reason to spare the human merchants and their guards. So we ordered the attack today.

2nd Timber
We finally had enough marble blocks to finish at least parts of the trade building. This was a small break from the work at the administrtion hall, but looking at the current progress, it was unlikely, that it would be finished this year anyway, even though the furniture out of platinum, silver and gold was already finished.

15th Timber
3 Automaton ambushes were spotted. But we are not afraid of Automatons anymore. Kamikazi ordered a quick frontal attack to prevent the Automatons from disturbing the civilians working in the mines at the entrance. Sadly damage could not be prevented entirely. While our militia came out unharmed, and all 12 Automatons had been killed, a stray bullet hit one of our workers right into the head.

He was still alive, but his state was critical. His chances of survival were highly dependent on the quickness of our medical staff to bring him to the hospital.

18th Timber
Dwarves at the horizon! The caravan. Finally, after we didn't have a chance for trade during the last year. All our haulers were tasked with bringing stuff to the depot. And the militia stood ready to defend the caravan at all costs.

20th Timber
During all that hauling someone had a closer look at our primary animal cage.

Oups, looks like noone felt like feeding those animals. Whatever... soon it would be the merchants task to take care of them.

1st Moonstone
Just as trading concluded, winter arrived. We had traded away all those looted clothes not fitting any dwarf, tons of other loot like various kinds of wooden items etc. and also more then 150 animals. And for all that we got: few dozen bars of aluminium, wolfram and titanium, another hellfire turret and a new protector of the fortress. A speargolem!
But besides trading not much had happened during the season. We were mostly busy with construction work again. The Automatons didn't prove to be a challenge and even the wounded worker had made it to the hospital and looked like he would survive.

23rd Opal
We struck the second caverns.

We only were able to see a small part of it, that had nothing of interest besides some wolfram. For now the miners were told to ignore the cavern and dig some more exploration tunnels.
On the surface, Moseys new dining room was finished, but his office and bedroom were still under construction.

15th Obsidian
Today the drow arrived. There was just a problem. There were still dwarves at the trade depot. They had announced their departure 2 months ago, but were still packing up all that trash we had sold them.

16th Obsidian
Warlocks! An ambush! 5 Warlocks jumped out of nothing right in front of the entrance. Our marksdwarves had clear shots and tried to take them down as quick as possible. The newly grown drakes also charged in and the drow hoardmaster got caught in the middle of all this. Oh, and some random Kobold...

17th Obsidian
Another group of Warlocks was sighted. The few drakes and guardians at the front were surely not enough to hold, as for some reason all our javelinthrowers decided it would be a good time to restock their food, ammo and drinks... kamikazi was considering to fight the Warlocks head on but then decided otherwise. With the drow approaching the entrance, we could let them do the dirty work. We would try not to risk any dwarves.

20th Obsidian
Our strategy has worked. Well, at least somehow. While the drow with assistance of our axethrowers took care of one Warlock squad, the remaining Warlocks were slowly killed by our guardians, until the dwarven caravan decided to finally leave and the guards took care of the Warlocks still alive. Oddly during the fight one of our paved roads dissolved. Was the Warlockacid that strong?

22nd Obsidian
The drow seem unsecure about entering the town. They are just standing around. Meanwhile the dwarven merchants found another Warlock ambush. Hopefully their guards can handle this and they can leave with all their goods. We don't want this trash in our sight anymore.

23rd Obsidian
With assistance of the drow the Warlocks were dispatched surprisingly quick. But one merchant suffered a lot under the evil magic.

He will probably die soon. But please... NOT HERE!

1st Granite
Another year has passed.
The trader had just left our sight. Good, so we are not responsible for him anymore. Meanwhile the drow are still just standing around with their wagons out there in the open. Well, they are a good defense against invaders, so I don't mind that.
Looking back, this year had two entirely different halves. During the first one it was all about fire. We drove back the invaders with fire twice, but it was also clear, that the danger of that kind of defense was immense. We lost most of our drakes in the process, which robs us of a vital first line of defenses. But even inside the city it was all about fire. After some hiccups we finally managed to use magma for our forges, relieving our minders from the dangerous coal mining. Those had struck the second cavern, but for now we have no intention of making use of them.
The second half of the year was much calmer. We had a decent amount of trade with the mountain homes, but no serious threats to the security of the city. Well, usually a Warlock ambush would be a severe threat, but as it happened, the dwarven and drowish caravan guards took care of it. So the focus in that last 2 seasons of the year was mostly on construction. The trade forum is now at least partially finished, even though the top floor still lacks a roof. But most time was dedicated to our administration hall, which is now also nearing completion. Mosey already has moved his dining and sleeping rooms to the building, while his new office is not yet completed (again, the roof is missing).
Overall we are now 231 dwarves, even though we lost a few during the last year. There won't be any more migration waves, it seems, so we have to work with that. But it feels like we have enough of everything, even though most of the time less then 20 dwarves are unemployed. For the next year nothing special is planned. We will continue with what we are doing, which means cleaning up the city, construction of various buildings and standing strong against whoever will come. Speaking of our militia, we will most likely recruit a few more soldiers, but not too many. For now all our men under arms are part of a fitting guild and when I checked their equipment, I decided to make a quick writedown about those dwarfs, that keep our fortress safe:

I will post an overview at the end of the next year, i guess. I want those buildings to be finished before showing them :D
But if there are any other wishes, what you want to know/see, just ask ^^

What kind of armor is my dwarf wearing? Am I just extremely strong to be that quick or what?

Also if I'm not super strong stick me in a weight bench for a few seasons.  When I fight in battles I want it to be like in the many scenes of the Matrix with people punching through concrete pillars at unbelievable speeds.  I literally want Automatons to explode as I hit them haha.

Also have you thought about coating any of the weapons in runes or poisons?  Could give the edge of some of the tougher things that come our way.  I'm still scared for the first true siege that shows up.  What if it's 200 orcs or something. At least you have the hellfire turrets now.  Very useful for such things.

You have 2532 str and 7600 (!!!) agility, both are maxed out since forever
You were wearing steel plate armor for most of the time, now bifrost plate armor, but your speed comes most likely from your uberagility ;).
Attributes of soldiers max out in less then half a year of sparring, so there is no point in using weightbenches for the militia, only use would be to speed up haulers a bit ^^ (but im too lazy for that)

And to be honest, i'm not afraid of 200 orcs ^^ There are only few enemies, i'm really scared of:
- tons of drowspiders (I'm still using the version, where everyone is riding them...)
- WARLOCKS
- me forgetting to put up the ranged fighters in time and then a series of ambushes catching me out of position
- me torching the city by accident
Even Frost giants looked quite poor in combat, some were even onehitkills. (melee as well as ranged onehit bisections...)

Oh, and if I get one mood-itemwish per fortress now... I will always wish for an axethrower artifact :D Or maybe the dwarf using it is just awesome... But his combatlogs are insane... I posted one earlier, i think.
Anyway... I'mm back home, so there should be updates during the next days ^^

So pretty much I'm like superman but I kill. To the enemy I'm just a blur that punches their heads clean off. Excellent.

I'm the same in my fort version and warlocks and drow spiders are what gives me the best fight.

6th Slate
Today we were finally able to order the razing of Mosey's wooden hut in the centre. With all his new rooms finaly roofed, he moved all his tasks to the new city hall. He should be happy about his new home, there are even 5 different artifacts among his furniture.
Before starting anything new and big, our masons now have to create some more sleeping space for the common dwarves first. With the old refuse stockpile almost gone, construction of a new apprtmenbuilding is under way.

16th Slate
Mages are crazy. Female mages even more so.

I can already smell disaster. This is by far the largest family clan we have in our fortress right now, and with Tenderroast being right in the middle of it, I can already see the tantrums happen, once something goes wrong (Like some dwarf taking her children into battle or so.... but who would ever do that, no?)

24th Slate
We are living in a hot climate. Sometimes it is so hot, that some dwarves go crazy... We are used to that by now. But this particular dwarf now felt like it was his duty to wish for a bit colder weather.

Whatever went through his head when he made this. At least he put a picture of my artifact on it. So I'm okay with it.

26th Slate
Our military took losses today. But not to combat. Stakud, one of our wrestlers, officially died to infection.

But the doctors told me, when they had opened his corpse, they had seen him being rotten everywhere. Warlock magic! We don't know when it happened, but there would be nothing besides an heroic burial, that we could do for him now.

10th Felsite
A visitor from below. A salt forgotten beast. I was just told, that if it has wings, it may be able to fly up into the stairway to the surface. We will see....

19th Felsite
Stupidity has a tradition here at Hexxedgarish. And obviously it are the elves, who are spreading it. They just send another caravan. Yeah, whatever, we will take it. Reminds us of those 2 drow wagons and their personal still hanging around the north eastern corner.
Meanwhile the forgotten beast is just hovering around down there in the caverns. Looks like it doesn't find the way up here.

1st Hematite
Summer has arrived. Kamikazi and Tenderraost had made quick work of the elves, with the militia commander claiming 6 kills, while the mage took only 4, even though it sould be mentioned, that she was somehow carrying 3 babies on her arm during battle. But very surprisingly there were no enemies this season. We had spotted a single kobold thief earlier and the forgotten beast down there in the caverns. But except for that... No one!

21st Malachite
With the new appartment building also finished we had ordered the deconstruction of our our old dormitory. I wouldn't have thought, that those stupid dwarves can do so much wrong durng that. They managed to cause a cavein with the roof (the building was 6x6, so the roof was 4x4) and 8 dwarves got hurt during that. Seriously?
But what did you expect, when they are led by such a dwarf. Even though there is no lawsystem in place here, we found out, that Mosey had filed more punishment orders for more then 50 dwarves... Because of illegal export of quivers... Yeah, now guess what those 50 people had done... Brought items to the depot. Guess who traded those items... None of those 50 people. Yeah... Mosey himself.  But he isn't on the list.. I am... Well... Not sure, if there will be a lawsstem here ever... Even though Mosey complains a lot about delays of punishment...

14th Galena
Humans at the horizon. Another caravan. It looks like they want to trade more reguarly again, after their failed siege two years ago. Odd.

19th Galena
They would be dissapponted. There was no trading, just blood and death. All the humans are dead, killed by our militia. And we are drowning in steel by now.

25th Galena
Just when we thought it would be another silent month, we spotted a Goblin ambush. Right next to the entrance and with all the civilians around there. And they were armed with crossbows. Even though we would usually not consider Goblins a challenge this had some potential for trouble.

26th Galena
The hauler, that had spotted the goblins stood no chance.

His death was soon avenged by the militia, who quickly butchered all the Goblins. There may be more Goblins out there, but I doubt they dare to come any closer after seeing what happened to their brethren.

1st Limestone
As expected no more Goblins came close to us. And so summer has ended. Even though we lost that one hauler, still it has to be said, that the now for a year there was not a single challenge to fortress ecurity. Militia is complaining about boredom. How could this be? Assuming the value of of our town (6.5 mio) calculated by Mosey is correct, we should be an interesting target for any raiding party. But instead no one seems to ever make a serious attempt. Warlocks with their foul magic were surely the most threatening attacks by now, but numberwise all our enemies were lacking. Strange....

OOC: Really... what do i have to do to attract bigger armies? :( People say having a high fortress value and killing a lot helps... Well, there aren't many visitors that survived their stay at Hexxedgarish, and the fortress value is quite decent... And still I don't get challenged :(

You could use the embassy to call for a challenge?

Also I usually ignore justice but if you do it the weakest dwarf you can find is obviously best. What would be the best hammer for the hammerer? Poorly made mithril maybe?

That depends on your world. If you really just want to fight, why not make a tunnel to cavern 1-2-3-hfs? :P

@kamikazi
true... I guess I will do that, if no one else shows up to fight me :D
@Meph
HFS... it sounds tempting, but... usually just before i trade with the dwarven caravan, my FPS on this fortress is worse then it is for the community fort before jimbos turn ^^
I usually drop down to 25 FPS before I trade, and about 35 FPS once they are gone (due to reduced clutter, i guess)
And I had 40 FPS on the comm fort before jimbos turn ^^
And that is with almost all items besides stones quantum stockpiled...
So I'm not sure opening HFS will be a good idea at this point... Even though i would like to see how those elite dwarfs fare against the demons in fair combat.
@tenderroast
I may have screwed up her gender a few times :D But she always was a she, and i think i called her a she earlier as well ^^ (like 50% of the time ^^)

In general:
I guess I will play on for a bit, but i already have another challenge idea in case this fortress finds it's doom in my thirst for enemies, FPS or a hellfireturret accident ^^
Next idea will be:
- dwarves on a 2x2 flat embark
- all races (incl. fortress defense) activated
- max 2 melee militia dwarves
- max 2 ranged militia dwarves
- no mages
- no cagetraps or atomsmashers for defense
- no walling in (there may be drawbridges, but there always has to be a reasonable way into the fortress)
- no plain animal defenses (so dropping 50 drakes on some jotun is fine, pasturing them just in front isn't)
- this time no need to stay above ground
- all caravans/diplomats except dwarves have to be killed (death by drowcaravan in 1st winter :D)

So it would turn into an engineer fort with 4 superheros as a last resort measure... traps, siegeweaponry, minecarts similar are the only weapons^^   But first... we have to see what happens here ^^

Welded mithril or adamantine. they are the lightest metals in the game.

or a feather wood crossbow.
