Oi, Maista -  if in doubt, do as you please. It is not only the players responsibility to be clear-cut, the GM's vision is also interesting. Well, just my mustard thou.

On that matter, giving the structure a rectangular form would enable  us to give it one or two entrances. Since we are about to craft crude spears, easy nighttime defense comes to mind - one entrance it is. We can always make it the food-storage later on...

In another line of thinking, anyone else fancying the biggest rock in the starter area a prime opportunity for a grand statue to our god? Well, I do. ;з

Round would be a bit easier I think. Plus, hole in roof so we have fire inside so guards can see.

Does anybody have some Picture of our Lord Armork God of Blood for the Statue? Its a Great idea btw, i like it and i have some crude picture in my Head allready ;)

A rectangular form is better indeed so in case of an Emergency the Citizens could run away through the Backdoor. A Fire on the inside of the shelter is not so good i would say. The Wooden Planks could catch fire and it would burn down in an instant. A rectangular form is easier to draw, too.

Edit:
Just had the Idea for some holiday creature, the Tak-Tak. A Humanoid Creature with a Loincloth that enters the Area sometimes on Holiday. If you can kill it, it will drop something usefull.

Note:
One Builder Group (is that even right?) can have 6 Members at a max. At least one Member of the Group needs to have a Hammer for the construction. You can throw the Crude Spears for Ranged Combat too, but then you need to pick up the Spear before you can use it.

Shouldn't we build a palisade (after we complete the shelter)? We are protected by the cliffs  from all directions but west, so single wall will be enough

War must be, while we defend our lives against a destroyer who would devour all; but I do not love the bright sword for its sharpness, nor the arrow for its swiftness, nor the warrior for his glory. I love only that which they defend.

The reason why we need the fire inside is so that we can see at night, as fire and guards dont mix well.

Why would Guards and Fire donīt mix well? I donīt see any problems with that. The Guards can see at night and if it is needed they can lit there Sticks. But first you guys need to say who should be a Guard.

Night vision. Fires are bad for nightvision. Want a video to be mad at?

And the scouts should guard.

Hmm with that point of view you are right. Then bring the Fireplace into the Shelter? Would take one turn to do this. You could take some wood from the Fireplace and bring it inside too. That wouldnīt take so long and you would have both fire inside and outside if you want.

One Dwarf (Miner) starts mining some Copper Ore, 3 turns remaining.

Some Informations about the Village:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Note:
Next Turn Nighttime beginns. Most Citizens will sleep during that Time of the Day. In the first Nighttime before the Citizens go to sleep they will eat and drink something. If they donīt drink and/or eat something they wonīt die immediately but after three Days in a row without drinking and/or eating they will die.
One Unit of Food is enough for two Citizens, the same goes for Drinks. So next turn the Citizens will take 4 Food (from 8 available -> 4 Bread and 4 salted Fish) and eat it but the canīt drink because theres nothing drinkable around. Juicy food dosnīt count as drinking!

Have the farmer attempt to cook food for everyone, also have them gather some dirt to smother the fire if needed.

Everyone else (besides guards) are to finish what they are doing and return.

Build some barrels out of the planks. After that the plan is to crush the berries into the barrel to retrieve the juice, producing both edible pulp and drinkable juice.

And make empty barrels to gather rainwater should we get lucky.
