It's all very chronological right now.
I guess back-and-forth-ing will happen once the major eras has been laid out 

Also some questions to inspire people:

-The first Cataclysm was triggered "manually" by the mortals. How does the 1000-years periodicity is introduced then? Does gems autonomously trigger the cataclysm, after being set in a sort of "oscillatory state" by the destruction of some of them? Are mortal races somehow doomed to repeat the errors of the past? What will gods do? Maybe they're responsible for it.

-Both the First and the Second mortal races were directly created by the gods. However, the gems were stated to be the responsibles for the apparition of mortals. Will that kick in for the third race and onward? How?

-Not really a question, but the First Cycle is a single contiguous Era. The others doesn't have to be. I would advise to separate the Second Cycle and onward into several Eras, like "rebuilding" "emergence of nation X" "Decline of nation X and dominance of Y and Z", and so on and so on.

Since there's so little carryover from cataclysm to cataclysm why not just give them names based on the currently active race?

There is some of that. "Elf" is used by Ellith-id and humans to describe the eta-lieve.

"Flayer" is a name for the slavemasters of the Ellith-id.

Well, here's how I look at it.

We have one race, utterly unlike humanity.
In two cycles, we will have a race exactly like humans.
In between, which makes more sense: A human-like race, or a race like no other race?

And you can't claim I just copied the mind flayers. Sure, they're both octopus-like and have similar names, but past that...well, their actual biology is rather different, their psychology is different (as much as I could convey; pretty much the only similarity is the tendency towards slavery, which in the case of illithids is more like farming than typical--or Ellith-id--slavery. Past that...Ellith-ids are notable for their inventiveness and distrust of tradition, which are totally absent in illithids, and they don't live in caverns). Basically, the only similarities are the tentacles (which are different) and the names (which are convenient in that they give readers a vague idea of what to expect...and make it easier to name the God of Chaos).

You could at least try to come up with something original!

And the whole 'human-like' argument makes no sense! We have CRYSTALLISED CHAOS influencing evolution, EVERYTHING is gonna be random!

Aside from the name (again, just convenient for giving a vague idea of what it is and hardly the most creative aspect of the race) and the presence of tentacles(common on many non-illithid beings), it is not a ripoff of illithids, and it is original. Explain how anything but the name and the tentacles are unoriginal.

Exactly my point. Each race ought to be a lot different from each other race.
