I see very well a single gem being destroyed, which set off a chain reaction with the hundreds, maybe thousands of others.

I didn't mention anything about a chain reaction, but I suppose that's something that could be clarified later on in the game. Either way, the Gemstones are still kicking around when the next race is created.

Still no idea how it becomes periodic, though.

Again, that's something that can be ironed out later. They're also magical gemstone of change, who knows what they can and cannot do? Either that, or the destruction of a couple gemstones has destabilized the world, and it's now oscillating between apocalypses.

It's all good, but can we have a quick vote on the Emsai? Should we keep them or should they fall with the eta-lieve?
I'd imagined that at least a few eta-lieve would survive the catastrophe (why else would later races name them?), and the Emsai would be better-suited to living in a post-apocalyptic world or fighting over unaffected areas than normal elves. So yeah, they'll survive.

Having them survive in the mythical beast of mass destruction niche doesn't seem to fit right.  If we gave them the ability to Godzilla the surrounding environment it might work, but as they stand, they seem to be slightly stronger and dumber trolls with (maybe) magical capacity.
Agreed. Trolls seems closer than dragons.

Anyways. I post the focus and such now?

You make a post in the IC stating the Focus and you proceed to make a Period with a nested Event or an Event with a nested Scene.

Done. The Flayers, or Ellith-Id, have been created; let the second cycle begin.

Anyways...
Spoiler: Gods (click to show/hide)

Honestly I'm more annoyed at the names of the gods. We've got entire mythologies and languages to draw names from, and we go with Greek and generic fantasy ones. *grumble, grumble*

Well, here's how I look at it.

We have one race, utterly unlike humanity.
In two cycles, we will have a race exactly like humans.
In between, which makes more sense: A human-like race, or a race like no other race?

And you can't claim I just copied the mind flayers. Sure, they're both octopus-like and have similar names, but past that...well, their actual biology is rather different, their psychology is different (as much as I could convey; pretty much the only similarity is the tendency towards slavery, which in the case of illithids is more like farming than typical--or Ellith-id--slavery. Past that...Ellith-ids are notable for their inventiveness and distrust of tradition, which are totally absent in illithids, and they don't live in caverns). Basically, the only similarities are the tentacles (which are different) and the names (which are convenient in that they give readers a vague idea of what to expect...and make it easier to name the God of Chaos).

COME ON NOW YOU'RE JUST RIPPING OFF DND.

Greek and generic fantasy? Huh, I wasn't trying for that.
Well, there's still half a dozen gods to name, and if you hate the name of Torm or Yros (and have a good replacement), I'll gladly change it.

I am mostly joking, though Yros is only one letter off from Eros.

Anyways, a few suggested names for gods:
Va'olam, Murrahah, Alyoa, Bukrala, Skiroek.

I could come up with many more if you want. Most of them are just random chunks of words from a language thrown together.

Believe it or not, I tried sticking some syllables that sounded vaguely elemental together before twisting them. That occurred to me a second or two after typing it, but I shrugged apathetically.

Alright. When the other five gods get named, let's use those. Unless one sounds...death-god-ey?

*shrug* They're just suggestions, feel free to use them if you want. Personally I think that Va'olam would make a good name for a death god, mostly because it's based on the ancient Hebrew phase "forever and ever". Or something like that. I made it up in about five minutes looking through some websites.

Since there's so little carryover from cataclysm to cataclysm why not just give them names based on the currently active race?

Probably so that we don't have to memorize three+ names for each god.
